Free crochet pattern for a phone cozy with belt.
This pattern was a request from one of my followers on Crochet Pattern Bonanza. Thank you so much for the request, if you’re reading this, you know who you are. :) And I do apologize for taking so long to bring it about.
The phone cozy is designed to fit my outdated Samsung phone. The phone measures about 2″ wide by just over 5″ high. With that said, the stitch pattern is only a multiple of two, so it’s easy to make it wider if you need to. If you make the chains long enough you could easy make a tablet or laptop cozy as well.
The belt length is also easy to adjust by following the simple formula that’s provided.
And you can use the two in the set as pictured, or omit the belt slot and carry the cozy in your purse. You can also add your favorite buckle to the belt and wear it with a dress or tunic.
Skill Level: Easy
Yarn: Size 3 crochet thread
Crochet Hook: G 4.00mm and 3.00mm
Other: 1″ Belt Buckle
Gauge: 1″ over 4 sts.
Finished Size: Belt measures 1″ wide and 28.5″ long. Phone cozy measures 3″ across and 4.5″ high laying flat.
Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
Dc = Double Crochet
FO = Fasten Off
Hk = Hook
Rep = Repeat
Sc = Single Crochet
Sk = Skip
Sl St = Slip Stitch
St/Sts = Stitch/Stitches
To calculate the correct length for the belt:
Measure around your waist or hips (where you want to wear the belt).
Measure your belt buckle and subtract it from your waist measurement.
Add 1-2 inches for seam allowances. (I used about 3/4″ on each side of buckle for a total of 1.5″.)
Belt Pattern Instructions:
With 4.00mm hk, Ch 111, (or any multiple of 2 + 1 that will go around your waist, taking into consideration the size of the buckle and seam allowances. See Note Above)
Instead of chaining 111, you could also make 110 Foundation Single Crochets, or any even number. Then skip row 1 and begin at row 2.
Row 1: Working into back bumps, sc in 2nd ch from hk and into each ch across. (110 sc) Turn.
Row 2: Ch 2 (does not count as st), dc in first st, *sk next st, dc in next st, dc in skipped st; rep from * across; dc in last st. (110 sts, Or, 2 dc & 54 crossed sts) Turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first st and into each st across. (110 sts). FO.
Attach the belt to the belt buckle as shown. Make sure the belt is not twisted. It’s best to pin the belt in place and try it on before sewing.
With 4.00mm hk, Ch 12,
Rnd 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hk and in next 9 chs, 3 sc in last ch, working into free loops of beginning chs, sc in next 9 chs, 2 sc in last ch; join with sl st to first sc. (24 sts)
Rnd 2: Ch 2, sk st where join was made, dc in next st, dc in st where join was made, *sk next st, dc in next st, dc in skipped st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first dc. (24 sts, or 12 crossed sts)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in each st around; join with sl st to first sc. (24 sts)
Rnds 4-15: Rep rnds 2 & 3 ending with rnd 3 at rnd 15.
Rnd 16 (Making the Loop): Ch 1, sc in same st as join and into next 6 sts (you may need to do more to reach the center of side as you want the loop to fall at the center.), ch 16, sc in next st and into each st around; join with sl st in first sc. FO.
With 3mm crochet hook.
Rnd 1: Ch 2, work 8 sc into 2nd ch from hk, join with sl st in first sc. (8 sts)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and into each st around; join with sl st in first sc. (8 sts)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, Encase rnd 2 by working 1 sc into each st of rnd 1; join with sl st in first sc. FO leaving a long tail for sewing.
Weave the tail end through the sts of rnd 3. Then bring your other tail through the center hole and secure the two ends with a knot.
Attach button onto cozy as pictured above.
Belt Slot for Phone Cozy
With 4.00mm hk, and leaving an 8-10″ tail, Ch 10,
Row 1: Working back bumps, sc in 2nd ch from hook and into each ch across. (9 sc) Turn.
Rows 2-4: Ch 1, sc in first st and into each st across. FO at last rnd, leaving another 8-10″ tail for sewing.
Attach to phone cozy on opposite side of button. And make sure to attach it towards the top as shown for more security.
You could also make this cozy without the belt and use it like a normal cozy to carry in your purse.
And for variety, you can take almost any phone pouch pattern and add the belt slot as instructed above. Then slide it over any belt you like.
Last, but not least, Thank you so much to Sandra Jones Haynes for testing this for me.
