Instructions for this crochet baby hat pattern are given for 3 different sizes that range from preemie to toddler. However, a note is added to one of the rounds that you can repeat for a slightly larger size. For example, if you need a hat that measures somewhere between 12 and 15 inches, then you would do another repeat of the mentioned round for more stitches.

You could even experiment with thicker yarns and crochet a hat to fit an adult sized head. I used Patons Canadiana yarn with an H/8-5.00MM hook, and followed the instructions for the large size and it ended up measureing approximatly 23" in circumference.

Hook size: E 3.50 MM
Finished Circumference Measurements: Small = 12", Medium = 15", Large = 18".

Puff st: *Yo, insert hook, yo and pull through, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook, repeat from * 4 times, (6 loops on hook), yo and pull through all 6 loops.

Ch 3, join with sl st to first ch to form ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, 2 sc in each ch around. Join with sl st. (6 sc)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 3 sc in each st around. Join with sl st. (18 sc)

Rnd 3: Ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch-1), *puff st in next st, ch 1,** dc in next 2 sts, ch 1, repeat from * around ending at **, dc in last st. Join with sl st.

Rnd 4: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in same st, 2 dc in next ch, *ch 1, sk puff st, puff st in next ch, ch 1, sk next st,** 2 dc in next st and ch, repeat from * around ending at **. Join with sl st.

For Medium and Large Sizes Only: Sl st into next st, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next st, *2 dc in next st and ch, ch 1, sk puff st, puff st in next ch, ch 1,** sk next st, dc in next 2 sts, repeat from * around ending at **. Join with sl st.

For Large Size Only: Sl st into next st, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next 3 sts, *2 dc in next st and ch, ch 1, sk puff st, puff st in next ch, ch 1,** sk next st, dc in next 4 sts, repeat from * around ending at **. Join with sl st.

For All Sizes: Sl st into next st, ch 3 (counts as first dc), *dc in each of next dc sts, 2 dc in ch, ch 1, sk puff st, puff st in next ch, ch 1,** sk next st, repeat from * around ending at **. Join with sl st. Note: To make the pattern just a tad larger repeat the last rnd once more to add more stitches to the circumference.

Next Rnd: Sl st into next st, ch 3 (counts as first dc), *dc in each of next dc sts, dc in ch, ch 1, sk puff st, puff st in next ch, ch 1,** sk next st, repeat from * around ending at **. Join with sl st.

Repeat last rnd until big enough, then continue with edge.

Edging: Ch 1, sc in each st and ch around. Join with sl st. Fasten off.
