Popcorn Shell Cowl/Ear Warmer
This is a simple pattern that allows you to make a cowl, or an ear warmer. The yarn used is 1 ball of Red Heart Soft Touch, but you can easily substitute other yarns. The instructions are given for an ear warmer that measures a circumference of about 24 inches. To make the circumference smaller or larger simply increase or decrease the beginning chains in multiples of 10.
Material: (1 5oz. ball for cowl, 1.5oz. for ear warmer.
Hook Size: H/8-5.00MM
Finished Size: Approximately 24" in circumference.
Special Stitches:
PC: Work 5 dc in st indicated, remove hook from loop, insert hook in first dc of 5 dc sts made, pick up the loop and pull through.
Shell: 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc all in the st indicated.
Ch 80, Join with sl st to form ring being careful not to twist chains.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around, join with sl st.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join with sl st.
Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next st, *ch 1, sk next st, pc in next st, ch 1, sk next st, dc in next 2 sts, sk next st, shell in next st, sk next st,** dc in next 2 sts, repeat from * around ending at **, join with sl st.
Rnd 4: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next st, *ch 1, pc in next pc, ch 1, dc in next 2 sts, shell in loop of next shell, sk the 2 dc sts of shell ** dc in next 2 dc sts, repeat from * around ending at **, join with sl st.
Repeat rnd 4 another 3 times. (If making a cowl continue with rnd 4 until you have reached a desired length).
Next Row: Ch 1, sc in first st and in next st, *sc in next ch and pc, sc in next ch and next 2 sts, 3 sc in loop of next shell, sk the 2 dc sts of shell,** sc in next 2 sts, repeat from * around ending at **, join with sl st.
Last Row: Repeat rnd 2. Fasten off.
