Shell Beanie

This shell beanie is an easy crochet pattern for beginners. The stitches are easy and the beanie works up fast.

Instructions are given for one size only, but a thicker yarn can be used to make it a larger size, and vice versa.

Material: Red Heart Soft Touch (about 2 to 2.5 oz.)
Hook Size: G/6-4.25MM
Gauge: Measures about 1.5 inches over first 3 rounds.
Finished Size: Measures about 22 inches around. Beg Shell: (Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) all in the same lp or shell as indicated. Shell: (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) all in the same lp or shell as indicated.

Ch 3, join with sl st.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 2 sc in each ch, join with sl st. (6 sc)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, work 2 sc in each st around, join with sl st. (12 sc)

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 2, sk next st,** sc in next st, repeat from * around ending at **, join with sl st.

Rnd 4: Sl st into lp, work beg shell in same lp, work shell in each lp around, join with sl st.

Rnd 5: Sl st into next 2 sts and into shell, work beg shell, dc in next sp between shells, *shell in next shell, dc in next sp between shells, repeat from * around. join with sl st.

Rnd 6: Sl st into next 2 sts and into shell, work beg shell, shell in next dc, *shell in next shell, shell in next dc, repeat from * around, join with sl st.

Rnd 7: Repeat rnd 5.

Rnd 8: Sl st into next 2 sts and into shell, work beg shell, dc in next dc, *shell in next shell, dc in next dc, repeat from * around.

Repeat rnd 8 until the hat is the desired size.

Edging: Ch 1, sc in first 3 sts, *3 sc in shell, sc in next 3 sts, sk next st,** sc in next 3 sts, repeat from * around ending at **, join with sl st. Fasten Off.
