This video demonstrates where to insert your hook in the beginnig chains of a crochet project. There are different spots, but really there is no right or wrong way of doing it...just a slightly different out-come.

Towards the end of the video is a neat way of doing a string if the pattern calls for it.

Also note the stitches used in the video are single crochets, but you may use any stitches you like.
