Finished size: 6 1/2 inches deep (not counting the brim of hat). 28 inches in circumference.

Special Stitch Instructions:

Beg cl: Ch 4, *yo twice, insert hook in same loop, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook twice. Repeat from * 3 times. Yo and pull through all 5 loops on hook.

5-tr-cl: Yo twice, insert hook in loop indicated, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook twice. *Yo twice, insert hook in same loop, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook twice. Repeat from * 3 times. Yo and pull through all 6 loops on hook.

Ch 4, join with sl st to first ch to form ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, 2 sc in each ch around. Join with sl st. (8sc)

Rnd 2: Ch 3, 3 tr in each sc all around. Join with sl st. (24 tr)

Rnd 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in each tr all around. Join with sl st. (48 sc)

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 3, skip next 2 sts, *sc in next st, ch 3, skip next 2 sts. Repeat from * all around, join with sl st. (16 loops)

Rnd 5: Sl st into loop, work Beg cl, ch 3, (5-tr-cl, ch 3) in next loop all around. Join with sl st in top of beg cl.

Rnd 6: Sl st into loop, ch 6, (counts as first dc and ch-3), dc in same loop, (dc, ch 3, dc) in next loop all around. Join with sl st in first dc. (16 loops)

Rnd 7: Sl st into loop, ch 1, 6 sc in each loop all around. Join with sl st.

Rnd 8: Ch 3, tr in first st and in each st all around. Join with sl st. (96 tr)

Rnd 9: Ch 1, sc in each st all around. Join with sl st.

Rnd 10: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 3, skip next 3 sts, *sc in next st, ch 3, skip next 3 sts. Repeat from * all around. Join with sl st. (24 loops)

Rnd 11-12: Repeat rnd 5, & 6.

Rnd 13: Sl st into loop, ch 1, (5 sc) in each loop all around. Join with sl st.

Rnd 14-16: Repeat rnd 8, 9, & 10. (30 loops at rnd 16)

Note: Do NOT join the following rnds. Use a stitch marker to mark the last st made in each rnd.

Rnd 17: 6 sc in each loop all around.

Rnd 18: Sc in each st all around.

Rnd 19: (2 sc in next st, 1 sc in next 5 sts.) all around.

Rnd 20-21: Repeat rnd 18 and 19.

Rnd 22-26: Repeat rnd 18. Sl st into next st at end of rnd 26, Fasten off.

String: Ch 170, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across. Fasten off. Weave into loops of rnd 16.
