Natural Fabrics

Natural fabrics are made from animal and plant fibers. Fabrics made from animal fibers are wool, silk, and suede. Cotton, linen, hemp, ramie, jute, bamboo and pina are derived from plants.

Wool is made from the coats of sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas, and rabbits.

Silk is made from the cocoons or silkworm.

Cotton is derived from cotton seed pods.

Linen is made from the stalk of the flax plant.

Hemp, ramie and jute are also made from the stalks of the plants.

Bamboo is made from the pulp of bamboo grass.

Pina is made from the fibers of long pineapple leaves.

Natural fabrics are more costly to purchase, but the higher price will pay off in the long run. Instead of wearing out, these fabrics wear in and with every wash they become more comfortable to wear. Plus every time the natural fabrics are washed the fabrics become stronger as the fibers continue to interlock with each other.

Natural fabrics drape and fit better. They are far more comfortable to wear than synthetics. They are better for the body because they help the skin to breathe properly, absorb perspiration, help reduce body odor and normally do not cause allergic reactions.

Those with allergies, eczema or dermatitis are better able to handle natural fabrics much better than synthetics which can cause all kinds of skin irritations and allergic reactions. The only natural fabric they may not want to wear is wool. Wool is great for warmth, but when worn next to the skin can cause skin irritations and itching.

Last but not least, natural fabrics are better for the environment because they are 100% biodegradable, and they don't deplete the earth of its natural resources.
