Cluster and Shells Scarf

Cluster and Shells Scarf
Cluster and Shells Scarf

This pattern has been updated on Oct 28th to make it easier to follow. I added a few notes, abbreviations list and re-worded a few things in the pattern. Also, added the ch-1 to secure the cluster stitch.

This is the first crochet design where I prefer the wrong side over the right side. I love the way the clusters pop out as well as the half moon look of the shells. However, the right side is not bad either.

With one ball of red heart soft touch yarn you can make a scarf that measures at least 50 inches long. That is how long I made mine, and I had a small amount of yarn left over.

Material: Red Heart Soft Touch 1 5oz. ball.
Hook Size: H/8-5.00MM
Finished Width: 4.5″

Abbreviations:

Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
Cl = Cluster
Dc = Double Crochet
Hdc = Half Double Crochet
Lp/Lps = Loop/Loops
Rep = Repeat
Sc = Single Crochet
Sk = Skip
Sp/Sps = Space/Spaces
St/Sts = Stitch/Stitches
YO = Yarn Over

Special Stitches

Cl: *Yo, insert hook in st indicated, yo and pull through, yo and pull through 2 lps on hook, rep from * 5 times, 7 lps on hook, yo and pull through all 7 lps on hook, ch 1 to secure.

Shell: (4 hdc, ch 2, 4 hdc) in lp indicated.

Notes:
You will see 2 sps above the cl, but only work into the one sp that sits directly above.
The Ch 2 at the beginning of row does not count as st.

Ch 16,

Row 1: Sc into second ch from hook and in each ch across. Turn

Row 2: Ch 2, dc in first 2 sts, *ch 1, sk next st, Cl in next st, ch 1, sk next st, dc in next st, rep from * 2 times, dc in last st. (3 cl) Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sts, *sc into next ch, (sc, ch 3, sc) in cl, sc in next ch and st, rep from * 2 times, sc in last st. Turn.

Row 4: Ch 1, hdc in first st, shell in next 3 ch-3 lps, hdc in last st. Turn.

Row 5: Ch 2, dc in first st, ch 2, sc in ch-2 of shell, (ch 3, sc in ch-2 of next shell) twice, ch 2, dc in last st. Turn.

Row 6: Ch 2, dc in first st and ch, *ch 1, sk next ch, Cl in next st, ch 1, sk next ch, dc in next ch, rep from * 2 times, dc in last st. Turn.

Rows 3 to 6 form pattern. Rep until you have reached a desired length.

Next Row: Ch 1, sc in each st and ch across. Do not fasten off. Turn and continue with edging.

Edging: Ch 1, sc evenly around with 3 sc in each corner st. Join and fasten off.
