Rasta Wave Hat ~ FREE Crochet Pattern

This rasta wave hat pattern has been updated on March 20, 2012 in order to make it easier to understand. Also, a few corrections were made regarding the asterisks. In round 12 a double asterisk (**) was added in order to mark the end of the stitch pattern, and in rounds 17, 18, and 19 of the large size, the asterisk was moved to the correct spot.

The rasta hat looks like it is pretty big up until round 12, but in round 13 it begins to pull together and tapers off to create a wavy or ruffled look. The pattern is worked in one size until you get to the very last rounds. Instructions are given separately for a small and a larger size, which I would say is about medium-large. If you need a larger size, you could always use a larger hook for the last rounds.

Materials:

Yarn: Paton’s Canadiana, 2 – 3oz. balls.
Hook Size: H/8-5.00 MM

Finished Size: Both measure approximately 13.5″ in diameter when laying flat. The measurements around the head are approximately 19″ for the small, and 21″ for the large.

Gauge: Measures 2.5″ over first 2 rnds.

Notes

The ch 3 at the beginning of each round counts as the first dc.
When the pattern says to ‘rep from * around ending last rep at **, it does not mean to end each rep at **. Rather, rep everything from first * and everything past the second ** up onto that point as many times as needed to finish the round. Then once you get to the last rep, it ends at **.
