This crocheted pouch is a fairly nice size with a measurement of 9.5 by 9.5 inches. It’s great for the beach, the ball game or for an afternoon in the park.

It’s big enough to hold your wallet, phone, water bottle and a few snacks and/or other items. Or use it as a cool lunch bag for work.

The drawstring at the top allows you to secure all items inside. And you’ll also love the handle for easy carrying.

Crochet Drawstring Pouch with Handle ~ FREE Crochet Pattern

Skill Level: Easy/Intermediate

Materials:
Yarn: Loops & Threads Soft & Shiny #4 (2 colors)
Crochet Hook: H/8-5.00mm

Gauge: Measures approximately 1″ over first 2 rnds. Or, 3″ over 10 sts (bead st, sc)

Finished Size: Laying flat it measures 9.5″ wide by 9.5″ high.

Abbreviations:

CA = Color A
CB = Color B

Bead St = Bead Stitch
Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
FO = Fasten Off
Hdc = Half Double Crochet
Hk = Hook
Lp/Lps = Loop/Loops
Rep = Repeat
Sc = Single Crochet
Sk = Skip
Sl St = Slip Stitch
St/Sts = Stitch/Stitches
YO = Yarn Over

Special Stitch Instructions:

Bead St: Insert hk into indicated st, yo and pull through, (yo and pull through one lp on hk) twice, yo and pull through both lps on hk. When you work into the next stitch make sure the bobble is facing the right side. See Tutorial.

Pattern Instructions:

Rnd 1: With CA, ch 2, work 6 sc into 2nd ch from hk; join with sl st in first sc. [6 sts]

Rnd 2: Ch 1, work 2 sc in same st as join and into each st around; join with sl st in first sc. [12 sts]

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc. [18 sts]

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and into next st, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc. [24 sts]

Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and into next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc. [30 sts]

Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and into next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc. [36 sts]

Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and into next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc. [42 sts]

Rnd 8: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and into next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc. [48 sts]

Rnd 9: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and into next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc. [54 sts]

Rnd 10: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and into next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 8 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc. [60 sts]

Rnd 11: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and into next 8 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 9 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc. [66 sts]

Rnd 12: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and into each st around; with CB, join with sl st in first sc. [66 sts]

Rnd 13: With CB, ch 1, sc in same st as join, bead st in next st, *sc in next st, bead st in next st; rep from * around; with CA, join with sl st in first sc.

Rnd 14: With CA, ch 1, work bead st in same st as join, sc in next st, *bead st in next st, sc in next st; rep from * around; with CB, join with sl st in first bead st.

Rnds 15-40: Repeat Rnds 13 & 14.

Rnd 41: With CB, ch 1, sc in same st as join and into each st around; with CA, join with sl st in first sc.

Rnd 42: With CA, ch 1, (hdc, ch 1) in same st as join, *sk next st, (hdc, ch 1) in next st; rep from * around; with CB, join with sl st in first hdc. FO CA leaving an 8-10″ tail for sewing handle after completion of bag.

Rnd 43: With CB, ch 1, (sc, picot) in same st as join and into each hdc st around; join with sl st in first sc. FO CB.

Handle:

Row 1: With CA, ch 80, working into back bumps, sc in 2nd ch from hk and into each ch across Turn. [79 sts]

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first st and into each st across. Turn. [79 sts]

Row 3-5: Rep Row 2. FO at last Row leaving an 8-10″ tail for sewing.

Attach handle to ch-1’s and top of hdc sts made in Rnd 42 – one on each side of the bag. I attached the end with no tail to where I FO at Rnd 42, and the other end on the opposite side.

Drawstring:

With CB, ch 80, FO and weave in through ch-1 spaces made in Rnd 42.
