Picot Friendly Hat & Cowl for the Fashion Doll

Crochet this adorable hat and cowl set for a stocking stuffer. You’ll need a fine yarn in two colors; and you can use up your scraps as you only need a small amount.

This pattern was downsized from the adult versions of the Picot Friendly Hat and Cowl.

So by following the rules in adjusting in multiples of two’s, you could basically crochet this for any doll that you wanted to. And feel free to change up your yarn and hook sizes too! It really is that simple.

Abbreviations:

CA = Color A – Tan
CB = Color B – Gold

Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
Dc = Double Crochet
Hk = Hook
Lp/Lps = Loop/Loops
Rep = Repeat
Sc = Single Crochet
Sk = Skip
Sl St = Slip Stitch
Sp/Sps = Space/Spaces
St/Sts = Stitch/Stitches

Special Stitch Instructions:

Picot: Ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hk.

Carry yarn up at each round. Or, for a clean seam, you can fasten off after new color is joined. Or fasten off and begin next round with a standing crochet stitch.

Pattern Instructions:

Ribbing Rows

Row 1: With CA, Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hk and in next 3 chs. Turn. (4 sc)

Rows 2-20: Ch 1, blsc in each sc across. Turn. (4 sts) Continue with this row until you have reached a desired circumference making sure to end in an even number of rows.

Ch 1 and join the ribbing rows by slip stitching the last row to the free lps of starting chs. You might have your own way of doing it, but I like to join the front lps of last row worked to the free lps of starting chs.

Working in the Round (Body of Hat)

Rnd 1: Working along the ribbing edge, ch 1 and work 1 sc into end of each ribbing row; With CB, join with sl st in first sc. (20 sts)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, (sc, picot) in same st as join, *sk next st, (sc, picot) in next st; rep from * around; With CA, join with sl st in first sc. (10 picots)

Rnd 3: Ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch-1), (dc, ch 1) in next sc and into each sc around; With CB, join with sl st in first dc (3rd ch) (10 ch-1 sps)

Rnd 4: Ch 1, (sc, picot) in same st as join and into each dc st around; With CA, join with sl st in first sc.

Rnd 5: Rep rnd 3 omitting the color change. Fasten off leaving a 5″ tail for weaving through the last rnd. I went into every dc and pulled tight to secure.

Cowl/Headband:

With CA, Loosely Ch 20, or any multiple of 2; join with sl st in first ch being careful not to twist chs.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, and working into back bumps, sc in same ch as join and into each ch around; With CB, join with sl st in first sc. (20 sts)

Rnd 2: Same as rnd 2 for hat.

Rnd 3: Same as rnd 3 for hat omitting the color change.

Rnd 4: With CA, Ch 1, sc in same st as join and into each st and ch around; join with sl st in first sc. (20 sts) Fasten Off.
