Make a bunch of garlands and tie them together with a ribbon for a thicker and colorful decoration to go on the fireplace mantel or above a doorway. Another option is to wrap this around a door wreath. Those are just a few ideas; I’m sure there are many other ways to use this garland as part of your holiday decor.

How to Crochet a Garland

This holiday garland is one of the easiest things to crochet because you only need to know how to make chains and how to secure a bell with a chain.

If you’re a beginner, you may have difficulties crocheting around the jingle bells, but to secure the bells, it’s really just a matter of sliding the bell close to your hook and then making the chain as normal. It’s really that simple!

I made 9 chains in between each bell, but you can space the bells out even more, or inch them closer together.

What Yarn Should I Use

This garland can be crocheted in any yarn that you like. I chose Red Heart Scrubby Sparkle yarn because has a nice holiday sparkle to it. The yarn is available at Yarnspirations. Aside from this red, there are a few other colors available that would be suitable for the holidays.

The yarn is not suitable for beginners, but since we’re only making chains, it might just be the perfect project for them to get the feel of this type of yarn. For those not comfortable with this yarn, any festive looking yarn will work.

The Bells

I picked up my bells at the local dollar store. Michaels and other craft stores usually carry them during the holiday season as well.

When choosing the size of your bells, look for something small, but make sure that they have a hole big enough to slide over a worsted weight yarn.

At the same time, you can also experiment with bigger bells to go with a thicker yarn weight.
