Crochet Handbag

Today we have another beautiful pattern from Lubna of A Crafty Homemaker.

This crochet handbag has a beautiful style that you will be proud to show off where ever you go. My favorite part about this crocheted bag is that you only need to know basic crochet stitches to create these beautiful textures!

And it comes with lots of photos to help you along the way.

No one can ever have enough of handbags. Even if we think we’ve had it all, there’s still a place for one more. So grab your crochet hook and make this stylish handbag for your next outing.

Things needed:
4 balls (90m each) of bulky weight yarn
1m thin rope (for the handles)

Hook used – 5mm

Stitches to know:

Dc – double crochet
Sc – single crochet
Tr – treble crochet

Finished size of the bag – 16″ x 11″

Round 1: Ch 54. 2dc in the third chain from hook.
1dc in each of the next chain. ( 52 dc)
5dc in the last chain.
1 dc in each st around. 2 dc in the last chain. Join with a slip st to the second chain.

Round 2 : Ch2. 1 dc in the same stitch. 2dc in each of the next two stitches. 1 dc in each stitch till you reach the opposite corner stitch ( 52dc) . 2dc in each of the five corner stitches. Continue with 1dc in each stitch till the end (52dc). 2dc in each of the next 2 sts. Join with a slip st to the ch 2 st.

Round 3 : 2dc – 1dc – 2dc – 1dc – 2dc. 1 dc in each of the next 52 sts. 2dc – 1dc – 2dc – 1dc – 2dc – 1dc – 2dc – 1dc – 2dc. 1 dc in each of the next 52 sts. 2dc – 1dc – 2dc – 1dc. Join with a slip stitch.

Round 4 – Round 5 : Ch 2. 1Dc in each stitch.

Round 6 – Round 7 : Ch 3. Skip next ch. (1dc. Ch 1. Skip next ch. ) * Repeat * till the end. Join with a sl st to the 2nd ch.

Round 8 – Round 9 : Ch 2. 1dc in each stitch.

Round 10 : Ch 2. 3dc in the same st. Skip 3 sts. (4dc in the next st. Skip 3 sts. )* Repeat * till the end.

Round 11: Ch 1. 1sc in each st.

Round 12 : Repeat Round 10.

Round 13 : Repeat Round 11.

Round 14 : Repeat Round 12.

Round 15 : Repeat Round 13.

Round 16 : Repeat Round 14.

Round 17 : Repeat Round 15.

Round 18 – Round 19 : Ch 2. 1dc in each stitch.

Round 20 – Round 21 : Ch 3. Skip next ch. (1 dc in the next st. Ch1. skip next st.) * Repeat * till end.

Round 22 – Round 23 : Ch2. 1 dc in each stitch.

Join with a slip stitch. Fasten and weave off.

For the handles:

Round 1: Ch 10. 1 tr in the 4th ch from hook. 1 tr in each of the chain.

Round 2: Turn. Ch3. 1 tr in each ch.

Repeat Round 2 till the required handle length.

Now place the rope in the middle of the handle and sew the sides leaving an inch gap at both the ends.

Attach the handles onto the bag.
