Finding the Perfect Pattern

Looking for a crocheting or knitting pattern can sometimes be as simple as asking a friend if they have a pattern you can use, or it can mean searching for hours on end just to find that perfect pattern. The internet can be a brilliant resource for finding an ideal, free crocheting pattern without spending hours searching through magazines or stores. This having been said, sometimes patterns for special items can remain elusive online, especially if you are trying to knit or crochet a dress or similar for a very special event. If you are looking for something as advanced as this, you may find a visit to a convention or a conference very useful. Often these conventions have classes you can sign up for in advance to further your crocheting or knitting skills with a large group of experienced crafters, or they can offer advanced patterns to take home for the people who do not have the spare time to sit through one of the many classes they have to offer. If you are looking specifically for a crocheted or knitted wedding dress pattern, be sure to look through pictures of the finished dress before choosing a pattern to ensure it is exactly what you are looking for. An item as large as a dress will take a lot of concentration, skill and time to knit or crochet perfectly, so you do not want to get halfway through the project only to realise it isn’t exactly what you were hoping for. Also these patterns will usually cost a relatively small sum of money, so this is something to be aware of prior to searching for it, and also another reason photographs of the finished item are so important so as you don’t waste either your time, or your money. Dresses aren’t the only items that can be knitted for special occasions however; there are also items such as shawls or clutch bags that can really finish an outfit for a special occasion without any worries about the item matching the outfit as it can be coloured and styled appropriately, and avoiding the high cost of many shop-bought items.

Looking for the Perfect Yarn

Once you’ve found a pattern for your special item, finding the right yarn can often be a challenge as there is so much choice available on the market. Think about the look and feel of the item you are intending making, whilst also taking into consideration the thickness of the yarn that is needed for the pattern. Another aspect to consider when choosing the yarn is the sensitivity of the wearer or users skin. If the item is an item of clothing, ensure the wearer does not have any reactions to specific materials that are often found in yarn such as wool. The same can be said even for clutch bags as the bag must be carried, so any allergic reactions could be triggered simply from carrying the item for short periods of time. Once you have decided on an actual material type for the yarn you can choose the colour or shade you need and you’re ready to start crocheting or knitting.

Knitting or crocheting a special item, whether it is for a celebration or a wedding or even another special occasion, can give a sense of pride and happiness that you will not find elsewhere. It is also the perfect way to match in all parts of an outfit with one colour theme, and allows for some creativity in the outfit itself – not to mention it seems to be fashionable at the moment too!
