Easy Breezy Summer Poncho ~ FREE Crochet Pattern

Summer is long over, but this easy breezy poncho is perfect for the fall as well.  It’s great for adding a bit of warmth to your back and shoulders; or as a cover-up.

The pattern for this poncho is given in my size: Adult extra small, teen or a child. What can I say, the universe thought it was best for me to remain at only 4′ 10.5″. And so here I am trying to design things myself and others who have the same height as me.

At the same time, despite the small size, you can crochet this cool poncho in any size that you want! Simply start your chains with any multiple of two, and follow the pattern.

And since it’s so easy to adjust in size, you can probably crochet this in almost any yarn you want as well.

Skill Level: Easy

Materials:
Yarn: Woolike Yarn by Loops & Threads

 (affiliate link) – One 3.5oz ball. Or any super fine (1) yarn.
Crochet Hook: G 4.0mm

Gauge: 2″ over 8 hdc; however, gauge is not important as you can make this any size you like.

Finished Size: Instructions are given for a child/teen size or adult extra small. However, you can crochet it to fit any size by increasing your starting chains in multiples of 2 and doing more increase rounds.

Abbreviations:

Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
FO = Fasten Off
Hdc = Half Double Crochet
Rep = Repeat
Sk = Skip
Sl St = Slip Stitch
Sp/Sps = Space/Spaces

Notes:

Poncho is started at the neck and worked down.

hdc-set-1

Pattern Instructions:

Ch 64 (or any multiple of 2); join with sl st in first ch to form circle.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 2 hdc in same ch as join, *sk next ch, 2 hdc in next ch; rep from * around; sk last ch; join with sl st in first hdc. (64 hdc)

Rnds 2-4: Sl st into sp before next hdc, ch 1, work 2 hdc into same sp, *sk next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in sp before next hdc; rep from * around; join with sl st in first hdc.

Rnd 5-8: Sl st into sp before next hdc, ch 1, work 2 hdc into same sp, ch 1, *sk next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in sp before next hdc, ch 1; rep from * around; join with sl st in first hdc.

Rnd 9-12: Sl st into sp before next hdc, ch 1, work 2 hdc into same sp, ch 2, *sk next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in sp before next hdc, ch 2; rep from * around; join with sl st in first hdc.

Rnd 13-16: Sl st into sp before next hdc, ch 1, work 2 hdc into same sp, ch 3, *sk next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in sp before next hdc, ch 3; rep from * around; join with sl st in first hdc.

Rnd 17-20: Sl st into sp before next hdc, ch 1, work 2 hdc into same sp, ch 4, *sk next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in sp before next hdc, ch 4; rep from * around; join with sl st in first hdc.

Rnd 21-24: Sl st into sp before next hdc, ch 1, work 2 hdc into same sp, ch 5, *sk next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in sp before next hdc, ch 5; rep from * around; join with sl st in first hdc.

Rnd 25-28: Sl st into sp before next hdc, ch 1, work 2 hdc into same sp, ch 6, *sk next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in sp before next hdc, ch 6; rep from * around; join with sl st in first hdc.

Rnd 29-32: Sl st into sp before next hdc, ch 1, work 2 hdc into same sp, ch 7, *sk next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in sp before next hdc, ch 7; rep from * around; join with sl st in first hdc.

For a wider poncho, continue to increase as established until it reaches across the shoulders.

Continue with Rnd 29 (or last round) until you have reached a desired length. FO at last rnd.
