This cowl has a lovely and sturdy design that makes it great for pulling over the chin while out in the cold. And although it’s crocheted in a chunky yarn, it’s not too bulky to fit underneath your winter coat.

With that said, any yarn and hook size will work to crochet this. It’s a simple stitch multiple of two, so you can crochet this as long or as short as you like. It’s great for toddlers and up.

Crochet this in a single color, in two colors as shown, or in bright and cheerful rainbow colors!

Skill Level: Easy

Materials:
Yarn: Loops and Threads Charisma #5 (Two 3.5oz balls – One of each color).
Crochet Hook: N-15/10.00mm

Gauge: 3.5″ over 3 stitch repeats (sc, bead st)

Finished Size: Laying flat it measure 11″ long by 8″ wide.

Abbreviations:

CA = Color A
CB = Color B
Bead st = Bead Stitch
Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
Hk = Hook
Lp/Lps = Loop/Loops
Rep = Repeat
Sc = Single Crochet
Sl St = Slip Stitch
St/Sts = Stitch/Stitches
YO = Yarn Over

Special Stitch Instructions:

Bead St: Insert hk into indicated st, yo and pull through, (yo and pull through one lp on hk) twice, yo and pull through both lps on hk. When you work into the next stitch make sure the bobble is facing the right side. See Tutorial.

Pattern Instructions:

With CA, loosely ch 40, or any multiple of 2. Join with sl st in first ch being careful not to twist chs.

Rnd 1: Working into back bumps, Ch 1, work bead st in same ch as join, sc in next ch, *bead st in next ch, sc in next ch; rep from * around; With CB, join with sl st in first bead st. (40 sts)

Rnd 2: With CB, Ch 1, sc in same st as join, bead st in next st, *sc in next st, bead st in next st; rep from * around; With CA, join with sl st in first sc.

Rnd 3: With CA, Ch 1, work bead st in same st as join, sc in next st, *bead st in next st, sc in next st; rep from * around; With CB, join with sl st in first bead st.

Rnds 4-17: Repeat Rnds 2 & 3 until you have reached a desired width. Fasten Off at last rnd.
