Quick and Easy Crochet Summer Top – Pattern Information

This easy summer top crochet pattern is worked up with the V-stitch and chain spaces to create a light layer over a bathing suit or camisole.

The v-stitch top is worked with the half double crochet v-stitch and the triple crochet v-stitch to create a unique lace that you’ll enjoy wearing everywhere you go.

Another excellent choice for a summer top pattern is this oversized crochet diamond mesh top, the simple lace summer top, or the half double and v-stitch crochet summer top.

Materials

  • Yarn: Cascade Yarns – Ultra Pima (Light, #3; 100% Pima Cotton; 3.5oz/100g; 220yds/200m) Color: 3830, 2, [3, 3, 3, 3] balls.
  • Crochet Hook: G/4mm
  • Other: Measuring Tape, Scissors, Yarn Needle

Measurements

  • Gauge: 17 sts = 4″; 8 rows = 5″
  • Finished Sizes: XS, (S, M, L, XL)
  • To Fit Bust Sizes: 28″, (32″, 36″ 40″ 44″)
  • Finished Width Measurements: 21″, (22.5″, 25″, 26.5″, 29.5″)
  • Finished Length Measurements: 21.5″, (21.5″, 21.5″, 23″, 23″)

Notes

  • The small size is shown on a 33″ bust.
  • Pattern is given for XS. Changes for sizes S, M, L, and XL are given in parentheses.
  • This garment is designed with 14″ of ease.
  • The garment is worked in two pieces from the bottom up: front and back. Each piece is worked identically.
  • Increase/Decrease the width as desired in any multiple of 6 for the starting chains. As for length, do more or fewer repeats of Rows 3 and 4.
  • Block both pieces to dimensions before seaming.
  • Adjust shoulder and side seams for a custom fit for the neck and shoulders.
  • Sew seams with the locking mattress stitch.
  • Gauge and measurements are given after blocking.

Quick and Easy Crochet Summer Top – Pattern Instructions

Make 2.

Leaving a 40″ tail for sewing side seams, loosely ch 90, (96, 108, 114, 126), or any multiple of 6.

Row 1: Working into back bumps, sc in 2nd ch from hook and into each ch across. Turn. [89, (95, 107, 113, 125) sts]

Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc now and throughout), sk next st, hdc v-st in next st, *ch 3, sk next 5 sts, hdc v-st in next st; rep from * across to last 2 sts, sk next st, hdc in last st. Turn. [15, (16,  18, 19, 21) v-sts]

Row 3: Ch 4 (counts as first tr), tr v-st in first v-st, *ch 3, tr v-st in next v-st; rep from * across; tr in last st (2nd ch). Turn. [15, (16,  18, 19, 21) v-sts]

Row 4: Ch 2, hdc v-st in first v-st, *ch 3, hdc v-st in next v-st; rep from * across; hdc in last st (4th ch). Turn. [15, (16,  18, 19, 21) v-sts]

Rows 5-34, (34, 34, 36, 36): Rep Rows 3 & 4.

Last Row: Ch 1, sc in first st and into each st and ch across. [89, (95, 107, 113, 125) sts] FO at last row, leaving a 20″ tail for sewing the shoulder seams.

Blocking

Block both pieces to measurements in the schematic. To block, simply wet the pieces and lay them flat to dry.

Shoulder Seams 

Sew shoulder seams 5, (5.5, 6, 6.5, 7.5)” on each side, leaving an 11, (11.5, 13, 13.5, 14.5)”  opening for the neck.

Side Seams

Starting at the bottom with the tail end, sew seams along the sides, leaving a 9.5, (10, 10.5, 11, 11.5)” opening for the armhole.

Optional Edging for Armhole Openings

With a standing single crochet, join yarn to the bottom of the armhole seam and single crochet evenly around; join with a slip stitch in the first single crochet. FO.
