Bone Ring Button

Bone Ring Button ~ FREE Crochet Pattern
Bone Ring Button ~ FREE Crochet Pattern

Remember last week I told you I had come across a design in which I wasn’t happy with a regular crochet join, and I needed to use an invisible join? Well this is it.. a cute crocheted button.

The button is crocheted around a bone ring, and has an open center. I used mine to make a tie for a cowl pattern, which is coming soon; but there are many other ways to use this. I can see this button used in curtain ties, clutches and bags or even on coats.

This pattern is given for a button that’s one inch across. You could use the same method and crochet around any size bone ring for bigger or smaller buttons. You basically work enough stitches into the ring to fill it up and then slip stitch around for the second round.

Also, you’ll notice that the fabric slides on the bone ring. To prevent that from happening, make a solution of fabric stiffener and water and dip the button in there. Allow the button to dry, and you should have a nice sturdy button.

Skill Level: Easy

Materials:
Yarn: Loops and Threads Soft & Shiny, or any medium worsted (4) yarn.
Crochet Hook: G 4.00mm
Other: 1/2″ Bone Ring

Finished Size: 1″ across.

Abbreviations:

Sc = Single Crochet
Sl St = Slip Stitch
St/Sts = Stitch/Stitches
Stsc = Standing Single Crochet

Pattern Instructions:

Rnd 1: Leaving a 3-4″ tail, work a stsc around bone ring. Work another 11 sc into ring; join loosely with sl st in first stsc. (12 sc)

Rnd 2: Sl st into next 11 sts around. Fasten off leaving a 3-4″ tail. Join with an invisible join in joining sl st of rnd 1.

Weave the tail ends to the center so you have one on each side of the bone ring. Use the tail ends for tying the button.

Use a fabric stiffener to stiffen the button a bit if desired.
