Single and Double Crochet Ribbed Cowl

If you want to keep cozy in style, then this easy crochet ribbed cowl pattern is perfect for you. It is worked in basic stitches, but into one loop only to create a beautifully ribbed texture on one side of the fabric. While the ribs are beautiful, they are not as deep as in the Falling Back Cowl Pattern, which you might also enjoy.

There’s no stitch multiple required for the stitch count making it easy to adjust the size, thus giving you endless styling options. Whether you prefer a long and wide cowl as shown, or a short and skinny cowl, this pattern makes it super easy to customize as you like.

Use stripes to make the most of your leftover yarn, or use a solid color as shown. Either way, the ribbed textures look lovely any way you choose to wear them.

Materials

  • Yarn: Lion Brand Yarns – Pound Of Love (Medium, #4; 100% Premium Acrylic; 1020yds/932m; 16oz./454g) Color: Thistle, 1 ball
  • Crochet Hook:  J/10-6.00mm
  • Other: Measuring Tape, Scissors, Yarn Needle.

Measurements

  • Gauge: 13 sts = 4″.
  • Finished Size: 62″ in circumference by 12″ wide.

Crochet Abbreviations

  • Bldc = Back Loop Double Crochet
  • Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
  • Flsc = Front Loop Single Crochet
  • Rep = Repeat
  • Rnd/Rnds = Round/Rounds
  • RS = Right Side
  • Sc = Single Crochet
  • Sl St = Slip Stitch
  • St/Sts = Stitch/Stitches
  • WS = Wrong Side

Special Stitch Instructions

  • Bldc: Work the double crochet as normal, but insert your hook into the back loops only. The back loops are the ones furthest away from you.
  • Flsc: Work the single crochet as normal, but insert your hook into the front loops only. The front loops are the ones closest to you.

Easy Crochet Ribbed Cowl Pattern Instructions

Ch 200, join with sl st in first ch being careful not to twist.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, working into back bumps, sc in same ch as join and into each ch around; join with sl st in first sc. Turn. [200 sts]

Rnd 2 (WS): Ch 1, flsc in first st and into each st around; join with sl st in first sc. Turn. [200 sts]

Rnd 3 (RS): Ch 2 (does not count as st), bldc in first st and into each st around; join with sl st in first dc. Turn. [200 sts]

Rnds  4-27: Rep Rnds 2 & 3.

Rnd 28: Rep Rnd 2. 

Rnd 29: Ch 1, blsc in first st and into each st around; join with sl st in first sc. Turn. [200 sts] Fasten off.
