Floating Flower
This easy crochet flower applique pattern is perfect for embellishing just about anything from A to Z. It can be made with a minimal amount of leftover yarn, making it great for stashbusting. You know those small balls that generally get tossed? Well, this is the perfect solution for them.
The adorable crochet flower measures about 3.5″ across, making it great for headbands, hats or anything else you have in mind. I crocheted mine in a solid color, but you could just as well crochet it in two or more colors.
I love how this crochet flower applique naturally curls, making it look like the top layer floats on the bottom. You can also push it flat if desired. If you want the pretty curls to stay in place you can stiffen it with a fabric stiffener.
The flower is crocheted in a medium worsted weight yarn using a G crochet hook. That creates a thicker fabric so the flower maintains its shape better.

- Tools: Scissors, Yarn Needle.
- Optional: Decorative button for the middle.

Special Stitch Instructions
- V-St: (dc, ch 1, dc) in designated stitch.
Instructions
- Rnd 1: Ch 2, work 7 sc into 2nd ch from hook; join with sl st to first sc.
- Rnd 2: Ch 4, dc in same st as join (first V-St made), V-St in next st and in each st around; join with sl st in first dc (3rd ch). (7 V-sts) Turn.
- Rnd 3: Ch 1, (sc, ch 4) in sp before V-St, *skip V-St, (sc, ch 4) in sp before next V-St; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc. (7 ch-4 lps) Turn.
- Rnd 4: Ch 1, fpsc in same st as join, working in front of ch-4 lp, work 5 dc in V-St made in rnd 2, *fpsc in next sc, 5 dc in V-St made in rnd 2; rep from * around; join with sl st in first fpsc. Do NOT Turn.
- Rnd 5: *Work 9 dc in ch-4 lp, sl st in next fpsc; rep from * around. Fasten Off.

The floating flower is beautiful, took me a while to figure out I was ignoring a part of the pattern! When I stopped and read every word (including turn) it came together wonderfully, have made several including some with two colors. Thank you, Pam Fitchett

Could you potentially add more petails if you wanted a third layer?

I tried this pattern twice and had it fail twice. After reading Pamela’s comment, I tried it again. It finally hit me that I was crocheting into the wrong spot on row four. After that the flower came together beautifully.

I wanted a flower for a Summer market )tote) bag so I used Sugar ‘n Cream cotton w/ G hook It was larger than I wanted, so I used F hook and it was perfect. I added an initial button in the middle. My friend loved it.
