Summer is here, and it’s time to get our hair out of our face and off the neck and shoulders. And to the rescue we have a new chained picots hair scrunchie to do the job.

The hair scrunchie works up fast. It can be crocheted around any size elastic for a great cover and great new look. You could also crochet this with any yarn and hook size. The only things to consider would be that you have a multiple of 2 stitches around the elastic, and that the amount of stitches are giving enough stretch.

I’d say this hair scrunchie is great for all women, teens and young girls with long hair. It is worked in both the front and back loops of the single crochets around the elastic, which helps to give the scrunchie a nice full look.

Skill Level: Easy/Intermediate

Materials:
Yarn: Loops & Threads Soft & Shiny or any similar worsted weight #4.
Crochet Hook: I/9-5.5mm
Other: Hair Elastic

Abbreviations:

Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
FO = Fasten Off
Blsc = Back Loop Single Crochet
Flsc = Front Loop Single Crochet
Hk = Hook
Rep = Repeat
Sc = Single Crochet
Sk = Skip
Sl St = Slip Stitch
St/Sts = Stitch/Stitches

Notes:

Rnd 2 is worked in the back loops of Rnd 1 skipping every other stitch, and Rnd 3 is worked in the front loops of the skipped stitches in Rnd 1.

This scrunchie is crocheted in a thinner #4 yarn. If using a thicker yarn such as Super Saver, you might want to start off with fewer single crochets around the scrunchies. Any number will do provided it’s a multiple of two and there is enough stretch in the elastic.

Pattern Instructions:

Join yarn to elastic with slip knot.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 40 sc around the elastic, join with sl st in first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, blsc in same st as join, *ch 4, sl st in 3rd ch from hk, ch 1, sk next st**, blsc in next st; rep from * around ending last rep at **. Join with sl st in first blsc. (20 picot points) FO.

Rnd 3: Join yarn to front loop of first skipped st of rnd 1, ch 1, flsc in same st, *ch 4, sl st in 3rd ch from hk, ch 1, sk next st**, flsc in next skipped st of rnd 1; rep from * around ending last rep at **. Join with sl st in first flsc. (20 picot points) FO.
