Puffy Spike Stitch Belt

This puffy spike stitch belt crochet pattern is worked up using the puffy spike stitch. It’s a pretty belt to wear year round, but could be especially fun if worked up in Christmas colors for the year-end holidays.

The belt is tied with two tie-strings on each side. It measures just over an inch wide, which means that you could wear this with your jeans. It’ll also look great over an over-sized t-shirt, a tunic or even a dress.

The Stitch Pattern

This pattern is worked with single crochets and the crochet puff spike stitch. If you’re familiar with the puff stitch, you know that you wrap the yarn over the hook and insert it into the same stitch several times before closing the stitch. The puff spike stitch uses the same concept, except that instead of inserting your hook into the same stitch in the row directly below, you insert your hook into various stitches into several rows below before closing the stitch.

The possibilities are endless in terms of the designs that you can make with the puff stitch, but for this design I worked the puffy spikes to resemble a leaf shape.

The Materials

I used a size 3 thread and a 3.5mm hook, which creates a fabric with very little stretch making it perfect for a belt. It’s actually a nice sturdy and strong belt. With that said, depending on how you want to wear it, you could choose just about any material that you want to!

The Size

Instructions are given for one size only, but it is easy to increase or decrease to fit any size you like. See the “Notes” section on how to modify this for a custom fit.
