Seed Stitch Tote

Here is a free crochet pattern for a simple seed stitch tote bag. The seed stitches help to create a nice solid and textured fabric. The stitch is very simple to make, simply by alternating the single crochet with the double crochet stitch.

And even though you can use just about any yarn, I used Patons Canadiana – The New Generation. The yarn has rapidly become one of my new favorite yarns because of the nice and soft fabric that it creates.

I made my bag to measure 11 inches high, but you can easily make it into a small purse by doing fewer repeats of the pattern.

The bag is good as is, but for extra strength you can line it with fabric. Here is a step-by-step tutorial on how to line a crocheted bag. You can add a zipper as well as some pockets to the lining if you choose.
