Crochet Purse ~ Beads and Diamonds

The beads and diamonds crochet purse pattern is worked up in rounds of bead-like stitches along with a diamond mesh. It’s a small purse pattern, but big enough to hold your basic essentials along with a few other things.

I used Caron Simply Soft because it’s a strong and sturdy yarn. It is a strong acrylic yarn, suitable for just about all types of crochet projects, including bags. You can substitute with other acrylics, but they won’t be as strong as this one.

Another yarn that you can use is a worsted weight cotton. Cotton is very durable and perfect for bags as well. Bernat Handicrafter, Sugar ‘n’ Cream are two good cotton yarns to use for bags.

The Handles

Make this crochet purse with one or two handles as you like. My preference is with one handle, but if you like to use it as a tote, then two handles might be more appropriate.

You can also work the handles in one piece with the bag by following this tutorial on how to add bag handles for any sized bag. If you plan on making your handles in this way, then I would recommend not to decrease the stitch count in Round 37 as instructed in the pattern. Instead continue to work in an even stitch count until you are ready to do the handles.

Lining Your Bag

You will want to line this purse pattern using this tutorial on how to line a crochet bag, with or without a zipper. Use a matching material, or something to contrast the open diamonds stitch pattern.

You can add more functionality to the bag by sewing small pockets into the lining to hold your keys, phone, Chapstick, hand-sanitizer and other small items that often get lost in your bag.
