A Bullion Stitch Crochet Lace Placemat Pattern

July 10, 2015 · Rhelena · Leave a Comment

Decorate your table top with this crochet lace placemat pattern. It’s worked up in the bullion stitch, which is a difficult stitch to master, but the final result is beautiful enough to make it worth every minute.

A Bullion Stitch Crochet Lace Placemat Pattern ~ The Free pattern is worked up in two colors here.

When I first crocheted this placemat I did a solid color. Then I figured since I had the yarn, I might as well try for another with a two-toned look. And I have to say I do prefer the one with the two-toned look much better. But it’s up to you. I wrote down what I did for both. And you can crochet them in any colors to match any kitchen decor.

When it came to blocking, I realized the natural shape it took and decided to help it along a bit. And I love it! I think it’s classy. And the slight curves remind me of a serving tray I saw not to long ago. If you don’t like the curves you can always block it to a rectangle.

And I do apologize in advance for not keeping track of how much yarn I used. I worked off a couple 14oz balls and still had lots left over. So not sure how much you would need for an entire set.

When working into the bullion stitches, work 1 sc into the bullion stitch and 1 sc into ch-1.

Use tight sl st join to finish each round.

Fasten Off after each color is finished.

For a Solid Color: Omit the standing crochet stitches if working in a solid color. Instead of the Stbs, I pulled up a long ch (about 1″) at the beginning of each bullion stitch round. Instead of the Stsc, I made a ch-1 and worked a single crochet in the same chain as join.
