Summer is just around the corner, and these crochet summer hat patterns are just what you need to help you get ready for the warmer days. The collection features various designers from around the web.
Most of these summer hats are for women, but you’ll also find a few for children as well. Plus, I’ve updated this roundup to include even more patterns.
A Few Tips for Crocheting Summer Hats
Use a Cotton Yarn. Summer hats are meant to protect your eyes and face from the bright summer sun. Thus, you want to allow your head to breathe through the hat, and thereby eliminate excessive heat. Cotton and a few other natural fibers are designed to allow for easy breathing to help keep you cool.
Make Your Hat Approximately the Same Size as Your Head. If you’re making caps or hats with brims you want to eliminate any stretch because this will cause the brim to become distorted. You can always add a band or an elastic on the inside of the hat to help keep it in place.
Choose an Open Stitch Pattern. If you live in a rather hot climate your best bet is to choose a pattern that features an open stitch design for the main part of the hat. The brim should still be a solid stitch, but for the rest of the hat, an open stitch pattern will help to prevent overheating.
