Hexagon Baby Blanket Crochet Pattern

This hexagon baby blanket crochet pattern features a pretty shell stitch in the corners and one Jacob’s ladder line on each of the six sides. It makes for a lovely gift idea for both baby boys and girls.

Although given for a baby size, you can easily increase this to any size you want by continuing in the pattern increase rounds. Choose any yarn and hook size and crochet this in a single color or your favorite striped color combination.

Hexagon Baby Blanket Crochet Pattern

Material: Bernat Baby Sport (300g)
Hook size: E-3.50MM
Gauge: Measures 3″ over first 2 rnds.
Finished size: 36″

Beg Shell: (Ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc), all in the same lp.

Shell: (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), all in the same lp.

Hexagon Blanket Instructions

Ch 6, join with sl st to form circle.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, (counts as first dc), work another dc in same first ch, ch 2, *2 dc in next ch, ch 2, repeat from * around, join with sl st to first dc. (6 loops)

Rnd 2: Sl st into next st and into lp, work beg shell, work shell in each ch-2 lp around, join with sl st to beg shell.

Rnd 3: Sl st into next st and into lp, work beg shell, *ch 2, sk next 2 dc, 2 dc in sp before next dc, ch 2**, work shell in next shell, repeat from * all around ending at **, join with sl st to beg shell.

Rnd 4: Sl st into next st and into lp, work beg shell, *ch 2, dc in next ch-2 lp, ch 7, dc in next ch-2 lp, ch 2**, shell in next shell, repeat from * all around ending at **, join with sl st to beg shell.

Rnd 5: Sl st into next st and into lp, work beg shell, *ch 2, dc in next ch-2 lp, dc in next dc, ch 7, dc in next dc, dc in ch-2 lp, ch 2**, shell in next shell, repeat from * all around ending at **, join with sl st to beg shell.

Rnds 6-35: Sl st into next st and into lp, work beg shell, *ch 2, dc in next ch-2 lp, dc in next dc and in each dc up to ch-7 lp, ch 7, dc in next dc and in each dc up to ch-2 lp, dc in ch-2 lp, ch 2**, shell in next shell, repeat from * all around ending at **, join with sl st to beg shell. Do Not Fasten off at last rnd.

To make the Jacob’s ladder loops: 

With right side of work facing, insert crochet hook under first 2 ch-7 lps in rnds 4, and 5, pull ch-7 lp of rnd 5 under ch-7 lp of rnd 4. (First Jacob’s ladder made.)

*With Jacob’s ladder loop still on hook, insert hook under ch-7 lp of next rnd, pull through Jacob’s ladder loop on hook. Repeat from * all the way to the outside rnd. Place stitch marker in last rnd to keep from unraveling.

Continue to make the Jacob’s ladder loops with all ch-7 lps. When all loops are completed continue with edging.

Edging: 

Sl st into next st and into lp, work beg shell, *ch 2, sk next 2 dc and ch 2-lp, (shell in next st, sk next 3 sts,) 8 times, shell in Jacob’s ladder lp, (sk next 3 sts, shell in next st,) 8 times, ch 2,** shell in next shell, repeat from * around ending at **, join with sl st to beg shell. Fasten off.
