Lacy Shells Crochet Beanie

Here is a free crochet beanie pattern for women with a fun lace and textured stitch pattern. It is perfect for those who want a little something different for their next hat.

It is an open stitch, which makes this crochet hat pattern ideal for moderate temperatures, but can also work in the cold weather underneath a hood as an extra layer.

Make a few for yourself and a few for giving to your friends and family members. Add a pom pom or leave it as shown.

The Size

The pattern is given in one size, but can easily be adjusted to any size in a multiple of four. The measurements are approximately 18.5″ in circumference by 11″ from top to bottom.

There is lots of room at the top for a ponytail if you like to wear your hair up. If not, you can easily shorten it a bit for a different look.

It fits an adult small. If you need a different size, use this hat size chart as a guide.

The Yarn

I used Pound of Love by Lion Brand Yarns. It is a medium worsted weight yarn, perfect for making hats.

I love this yarn because it gives you a nice stretch, washes well, and comes in big skeins so you can make several hats for giving away.

The Stitch Pattern

The crochet hat pattern is worked from the bottom up. The bottom is worked in the back loops with the single crochet to give it a nice stretchy ribbing.

For the body, we have the beloved shell stitch, but split in half with a chain one.

For the next round a bead stitch is worked in the shell space to give it a fun texture.

Chain spaces and single crochets are also in the mix to give you that fun and open stitch pattern.

It is a repeat over three pattern rounds and easy to crochet and to remember!

The hardest part to remember is to turn your work after pattern rounds 3 and 4. This way the shells and beads are always worked from the same side of the hat.
