Skill Level: Easy

Materials

  • Yarn: Loops and Threads – Delicate DK (Light, #3; 70% acrylic, 30% polyamide; 4 oz/113g – 315 yds/288m) 1 ball. 
  • Crochet Hooks: G/4.0mm and H/5.00mm
  • Other: Measuring Tape, Scissors, Yarn Needle.

Measurements – Size Chart

  • Gauge: 19 sts = 4″.
  • Finished Size: 18″ in circumference by 10″ tall.

  • RS = Right Side
  • WS = Wrong Side
  • Blsc = Back Loop Single Crochet
  • Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
  • Hdc = Half Double Crochet
  • Rep = Repeat
  • Rnd/Rnds = Round/Rounds
  • Sc = Single Crochet
  • Sc2tog = Single Crochet 2 Stitches Together
  • Sk = Skip

Lightweight Crochet Hat Pattern Instructions

Ribbing Rows

Row 1: With 4 mm hook, ch 12, sc in 2nd ch from hook and into each ch across. Turn. [11 sc]

Rows 2-84: Ch 1, blsc in first st and into each st across. Turn. [11 sts] Continue with this row until you have reached a desired circumference making sure the final row count is a multiple of 2. 

Ch 1 and join the ribbing rows by slip stitching the last row to the free loops of starting chains.

Working in the Round (Body of Hat)

Rnd 1 (RS): With 5 mm hook and working along the ribbing edge, ch 1, sc in the end of the first row and into each row around; join with sl st in first sc. Turn. [84 sts]

Rnd 2 (WS): Sl st into first st, ch 1, (hdc, ch 1) in same st, *sk next st, (hdc, ch 1) in next st; rep from * around to last st; sk last st; join with sl st in first hdc. Turn. [42 ch-1 sps]

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in first ch and into each st and ch around; join with sl st in first sc. Turn. [84 sts]

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sk first st, sc in next st, sc in skipped st, *sk next st, sc in next st, sc in skipped st; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc. Turn. [84 sts]

Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in first st and into each st around; join with sl st in first sc. Turn. [84 sts]

Rnds 6-33: Rep Rnds 2-5. 

Rnd 34:  Rep Rnd 2.

Rnd 35: Ch 1, skipping all chs, sc in first st and into each st around; join with sl st in first sc. Do NOT Turn. [42 sts]

Rnd 36:  Ch 1, sc2tog around; join with sl st in first sc2tog. [21 sc2tog]

Fasten Off leaving an 8″-10″ tail to weave in through last Rnd. Pull tight to close and secure. Leave as is, or add an optional pom pom.
