Ribbed Crochet Headband
Here is a quick and easy ribbed crochet headband to enjoy for yourself or your little ones. It features a pretty texture that you can wear with any outfit.
This headband pattern has a nice stretch, which allows for a comfortable fit.
It can be made in as little as an hour, making it a great last-minute gift idea. So why not use up your leftover scraps and make a bunch to have them handy for when the occasion calls?
Finished Size
The pattern is easy to adjust to any length, making it great for everyone from babies to adults. It is always best to take measurements of the head circumference, but when not possible, this crochet ear warmer size chart may be of help.
Depending on how you plan on wearing your headband you may need to make it slightly shorter than the chart shows, about an inch or so shorter if it’s going to sit snug on the head.
Your negative ease should be about 1-2 inches shorter than the head circumference.
With that said, another option is to not join the band and just make it super long for a tie-back. It’s narrow enough to work without adding too much bulk. And that makes it even simpler for customization.
The Yarn
I used Red Heart Comfort yarn, a medium weight acrylic yarn. Any similar yarn can be substituted. You could even choose a different weight too. Just use the appropriate hook size for the yarn. And it goes without saying, but a thinner yarn will come out narrower, and vice versa.
You only need a small amount, making it super easy to use up all kinds of leftovers!
You could even add stripes or do a simple color block if you have very small ends. that need to be used up.
The Stitches
If you can make the basic crochet stitches and are comfortable with them, then you are ready for the next step in making post stitches to create a pretty ribbed texture.
The ear warmer is worked in a two-row repeat across the short rows.
Each row starts with 2 chains, also known as the turning chain, and a double crochet in the first stitch. Then two posts stitches, followed by another double crochet. The post stitches are alternated between the rows, with one row the front post and the next row the back post.
