Slanted Cluster Crochet Toddler Blanket in Super Bulky Yarn

This crochet toddler blanket is not only perfect for toddlers, but can also be used as a lapghan by adults. It is super soft and warm, making it great for everyone to snuggle underneath.

A crochet blanket shown folded up. The blanket is crocheted in the slanted cluster stitch using a super bulky yarn.

And if you reduce the length a bit, this could also be used as a floor blanket for babies. As a matter of fact, it is so soft and cushiony, that children of all ages will enjoy this on the floor!

The Stitch Pattern

The stitch pattern, although easy and mindless, is for someone who is comfortable with basic stitches and is ready to learn the next steps.

This pattern is worked with the single crochet, double crochet and a slanted cluster, also known as a bead stitch. The stitch is worked by making a double crochet, and then working a puff stitch around the base of that double crochet. It takes up the width of two stitches.

The stitch naturally slants the fabric. To try and combat that, I worked an extra stitch in the slanted cluster rows, and then did a decrease in the next row to maintain a stitch count. I know in a cotton you can block that out, but in a polyester I’m not sure as I have not tried it yet. If anyone tries it, would you let us know in the comments below?

If you need help with the stitch pattern, a video is included below the written pattern.

This images shows the slant created in the fabric.

The Size

The finished size is 36 by 50 inches, which is perfect for a toddler blanket or a lapghan for adults. But you can easily adjust this by chaining any multiple of two to get the width that you want. Then continue in pattern until you reach your desired length.

Use this blanket sizing chart to help in terms of standard measurements.

The Yarn

I chose a super bulky yarn to bring out a beautiful texture on both sides of the crochet blanket. Not only does it help to bring out a nice texture, but it also works up really fast. The only thing with this yarn is that it can get hard on the fingers and wrists.

Bernat Blanket has been my go-to yarn for making thick and quick blankets. But choose any other yarn that you have in mind.
