Blankets

Here is my collection of free crochet blanket patterns. This collection if for kids and adults. For babies, the crochet baby blankets collection now has its own category.

Many of these crochet blanket patterns are mindless to work on, making them perfect for relaxing any time of day! Most of the blankets are available in one size only, but many of them provide you with a stitch multiple, making it easy to adjust them to the size that you want. You can refer to this blanket size chart if you want to make adjustments to any of my blanket patterns.

Crochet them up in solid colors, pretty stripes, or blocks of colors to match your home decor. They are not only great for keeping warm while you crochet or binge watch your favorite movies, but can also be very decorative when colors are chosen to match the room.

And if you have small children, you know that they make for awesome floor mats as well! Especially if you don’t have carpets.

They Make for Great Gift Ideas!

Crochet blankets make for awesome gift ideas for Christmas and birthdays. Whether you need something for your mom, dad, a friend or your partner, blankets are always a hit, even with men! For men, choose something with a basic stitch pattern, like this Triple Crochet Afghan Pattern. It looks great in a solid color, but you could easily work it up in some shades of grey and black.

A crochet lapghan makes the perfect gift for seniors or anyone who likes to keep their knees and legs nice and toasty. Lapghans are also perfect for those in a wheelchair as they are the perfect size for draping over the lap without getting dragged all over the floor. You might like the Open Stitch Quick Crochet Lapghan, or the Christmas Crochet Lapghan, which can be crocheted in any colors, not just Christmas.

If you’re looking for something quick to make as a last-minute gift idea, go for a blanket that calls for a super bulky yarn. Not only is a thick yarn quick to work with, but it also results in a cozy blanket, which I know the recipient will appreciate! The Super Bulky Easy Crochet Lapghan and the Eyelet Rows Super Bulky Throw are both good options!

Best Yarn for Crochet Blankets

When choosing your yarn for a blanket, go for an economic yarn like Bernat Super Saver, Red Heart Super Saver or Red Heart Comfort. These are acrylic yarns that wash well and are some of the cheapest yarns on the market! They do not drape well, but the more you wash them, the softer they become and the better they will drape!

Bernat Blanket is another awesome yarn. This is a super bulky, 100% polyester yarn. It is available in baby colors as well as other colors that are super easy to match to your home decor.

And if you’re crocheting for your baby, my personal favorite yarn is Bernat Baby Sport, which is available in large enough skeins so that you only need one skein to make one blanket! And it’s very economic as well! Lion Brand Ice Cream and Snuggly Wuggly Big! are another two good yarns to work with.

What is the Easiest Crochet Stitch for a Blanket?

If you are a beginner, you might be looking for something simple. The Growing Stripes Blanket is worked up in all single crochet stitches. It is a super easy and simple blanket, but I had fun with it in the that I did my colors.

Another great stitch is the Extended Single Crochet stitch. It gives you a nice texture and can be worked up in pretty stripes. I’ve done two baby blankets with the stitch, one worked in rows: Simply Stripes Baby Blanket. And the other is for the ESC Round Baby Blanket Pattern.
