Pretty Simple Free Crochet Soap Cozy Pattern
Crochet this simple soap cozy up for yourself, or for giving away in a bath gift basket. It’s just the right size for a standard bar of soap. It’s also great for traveling as it keeps the soap safe from the rest of your travel items.
This soap cozy also helps to keep the soap dry by absorbing the wetness after a bath or shower. So you may want to keep it hanging up so it dries nicely. With that said, you can also use this as a handy scrubbie in the bath. The vertical textured lines are not only pretty, but they act as a natural scrubber as well.
Another use for this cozy is for a neat drawstring pouch. It’ll make for a nice candy or treasure bag for young children.
What Yarn to Use
I used a medium worsted weight cotton yarn, Bernat Handicrafter. The cotton is natural, which makes it safer on skin, especially for those with sensitivities. However, cotton can take a long time to dry as opposed to an acrylic yarn. Acrylic yarn also tends to stretch out a lot.
The Stitch Pattern
The stitch is simply the half double crochet worked like a V-stitch, but without the chain space. So basically you work two half double crochets into one stitch. Skip a stitch and work another two half doubles in the next stitch. Think of these two half doubles as a v-stitch, but without the chain space.
Then for the next round you work your two half double crochets into the middle of the previous two half doubles; or in other words, the v-stitch of the previous round.

- Gauge: Approximately 2" over 6 hdc
- Finished Size: Measures 3.5" across and 5" from top to bottom.

Special Stitch Instructions
- Work each set of 2 hdc's into space between previous set of hdc's – like a V-Stitch, but without a chain space.

Instructions
- Ch 6,
- Rnd 1: Work 2 hdc into 2nd ch from hook, 2 hdc in next 3 chs, 4 hdc into last ch; turn to work on opposite side of starting chs, 2 hdc in next 4 chs, join with sl st in first hdc. (20 sts)
- Rnd 2: Sl st into sp before next hdc, ch 1, 2 hdc in same sp, *sk next 2 hdc, 2 hdc in sp before next hdc; rep from * around; join with sl st in first hdc. (20 sts)
- Rnds 3-11: Rep rnd 2.
- Rnd 12: Sl st into sp before next hdc, ch 1, (hdc, ch 1) in same sp, *sk next 2 hdc, (hdc, ch 1) in sp before next hdc; join with sl st in first hdc. (10 sts)
- Rnd 13: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, 5 hdc in next hdc, *sc in next hdc, 5 hdc in next hdc; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc. FO.
String
- Ch 31, working into back bumps, sc in 2nd ch from hook and into each ch across. FO leaving a 5-8" tail for sewing the ends together AFTER the string is woven into spaces of rnd 12.
Why am I not getting this? It kinda looks like the pattern above but it doesn’t look as thick. Please help.

this pattern makes no sense to me.. Just doesn’t work out at all to look like your picture. I checked the “more detailed tutorial” and it doesn’t seem to agree with the pattern you have here

this worked up quick and easy for me! what a fantastic stitch! i loved it so much I’ve started a throw using it too. I’m using Isaac Mizrahi Carlyle yarn in Plaza, which is a super bulky white and silver yarn, with a 10mm hook. it’s going gorgeously, and the stitches almost look like snowflakes with the beautiful yarn! the yarn is currently on sale on the Premier yarn website, with bundles of 12 skeins for $17.99! crazy! so i have 24 skeins to play with. thank you so much for this stitch!
I guess some got confused about the pattern on Rnd 2. Sl st into sp before next hdc, and 2 hdc in sp before next hdc; which meant you hdc IN BETWEEN the 2hdc or hdc BETWEEN the V stitch. It’s not exactly a V stitch because the normal V stitch is done by doing hdc/dc, then ch1, hdc/dc in the same space. Pls correct me if I am wrong Rhelena. I think people are getting confused on round 2 and stitching next to the V instead of in the middle of the V :)
