Cross-Over Long DC Purse
At last I present to you my last pattern with the cross-over long double crochet stitch. At least it’s the last one for now. I really love the stitch and I’ll probably incorporate it into some of my future patterns, but this is it for now. I’m using my bag as a purse, but you could also use it as a small tote bag for library books or for whatever else you might need it for.
This page is for the crochet pattern only. I would recommend lining it for a stronger and less stretchier purse. If you have never lined a crocheted bag before, then you might benefit from this bag lining tutorial that I put together. Skill Level
Materials
- Yarn: Patons Canadiana The New Generation (100g/3.5oz.), or any other worsted weight yarn that you have on hand.
- Crochet Hook: 4.50mm, or any hook suitable for the yarn.
- Zipper: 9"
- Material for Lining: 1/4 – 1/2 Meter depending on the fabric bolt and whether or not you choose to add pockets.
- Other: Measuring Tape, Scissors, Yarn Needle.
Measurements
- Gauge: Measures 2" across 8 sts and over 4 hdc rows.
- Finished Size: When laying flat it measures 9" across and 8.5" from top to bottom.

- WS = Wrong Side
- Bl/bls = Back Loop/Back Loops
- Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
- Dc = Double Crochet
- FO = Fasten Off

Special Stitch Instructions
- Cross-Over Long Double Crochet: For this pattern the cross-over long double crochet is worked into the last stitch made in previous round, or into the skipped stitch of current round. To make the stitch, yarn over and insert the hook from front to back into designated stitch. Yarn over at the back and pull through. You should have three loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through two loops. Yarn over and pull through last two loops.

Instructions
- Rnd 1: Ch 28, sc in 2nd ch from hk and in next 25 chs, 3 sc in last ch. Working on opposite side, sc in free lps of next 25 chs, 2 sc in last ch. Join with sl st. (56 sts)
- Rnd 2: Ch 1, 3 hdc in first st, *hdc in next 25 sts, 3 hdc in next st, hdc in next st*, 3 hdc in next st. Rep from * to * once. Join with sl st. (64 sts)
- Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, *3 sc in next st, sc in next 27 sts, 3 sc in next st*, sc in next 3 sts. Rep from * to * once, then sc in last 2 sts. Join with sl st. (72 sts)
- Rnd 4: Ch 1, hdc in first 2 sts, *3 hdc in next st, hdc in next 29 sts, 3 hdc in next st*, hdc in next 5 sts. Rep from * to * once, then hdc in next 3 sts. Join with sl st. (80 sts)
- Rnd 5: Ch 1, working in bl only, sc in first st and in each st around; join with sl st to first sc. (80 sts)
- Rnd 6-19: Ch 1, hdc in first st and in next 2 sts, cross-over long dc in last st of previous rnd, *sk next st, hdc in next 3 sts, cross-over long dc in skipped st; rep from * around; join with sl st to first hdc. (80 sts)
- Rnd 20: Ch 1, sc2tog over first 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, *sc2tog over next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts; rep from * around; join with sl st to first sc. (60 sts)
- Rnd 21-22: Ch 1, sc in first st and in each st around; join with sl st in first sc. FO.
Handles
- Ch 69 (or any multiple of 4 plus 1)
- Row 1: (WS) Sc in 2nd ch from hk and in each ch across. (68 sts)
- Row 2: (RS) Ch 1, hdc in first 2 sts, *sk next st, hdc in next 3 sts, cross-over long dc in skipped st; rep from * to last 2 sts, hdc in last 2 sts. (68 sts) Turn.
- Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first st and in each st across. (68 sts) FO.

Bl is for Back Loops only, and hk is for hook. Let me know if you have any other questions. :)
