Easy Crochet Headband – Open Stitch

This easy crochet headband pattern is versatile and perfect for all hair types, whether you’re looking to keep your hair back or accessorize in style.

The styling options are endless as you can wear it with many hairstyles in many ways. You can go from a simple wrap around the head to weaving it in with a low ponytail or even a braid. Another option would be to simply tie it around a ponytail with or without a pretty bow.

If you need more or less length for a specific style you can easily adjust that as needed.

Better yet, if you like shawls, the stitch pattern is the same as this easy rectangular shawl crochet pattern.

Easy Crochet Headband Pattern

This simple crochet headband is worked in a long narrow strip using basic stitches only, making it great for beginners who are comfortable skipping stitches and crocheting into chains.

Skill Level: Easy

Required Skills: chains, single crochet, and double crochet.

Materials

  • Yarn: Cotton Fair by Premier Yarns (Fine, #2; 52% Cotton, 48% Acrylic; 317yds/290m; 3.5oz./100g)
  • Crochet Hook: 4mm
  • Tools: Measuring Tape, Scissors, Yarn Needle.

I used Cotton Fair by Premier Yarns. I love this yarn for summer headbands because it is a fine weight, and because of the cotton/acrylic blend. It is soft and stretchy and gives you a breathable fabric for warmer months to keep you cool.

Other #2 yarns could be used as a substitute if you like. You could even go up to a #3 yarn, but you may need to adjust your starting chains.

Measurements

  • Gauge: 16 sts = 4″.
  • Finished Size: 45″ long by 2″ wide, without an edging.

Adjusting the Size

The length is super easy to adjust in a multiple of 3 for the starting chains.

Conversely, the width is not so easy to adjust as that would take away from the pattern. What you can do, however, is to change to a thinner or thicker yarn. With that said, I wouldn’t recommend a yarn too thick because that could cause a bulky knot when you tie the band.
