Easy Lace and Puff Cowl

Easy Lacy and Puff Cowl
Easy Lacy and Puff Cowl

Here’s a simple pattern for a puff stitch cowl. The cowl is twisted and worked on both sides of the starting chains. After the first two rounds a round is considered to be complete when you have worked around on both sides of the cowl. The round is then joined as normal and a new one is started.

For this pattern I used my Red Heart Comfort yarn left over from a previous project. I find it to be the cheapest yarn around in my area, which is why you’ll see it in so many of my patterns. However, for patterns such as this, any yarn will work.

This cowl has a lot of open spaces making it perfect for the warmer spring weather, which hopefully is just around the corner.

What I like about twisted cowls is that if you make them long enough to fit around your shoulders, you can use them as a stylish wrap as well.

Rnd 1: Ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch-1 sp now and throughout), *sk next ch, dc in next ch, ch 1; rep from * to last ch, sk last ch; do not join – rnd 2 will complete the full round.

Begin working into the opposite side of starting chains. Dc into same ch as previous join.

Rnd 2: Begin working into the opposite side of starting chains, dc in same ch as previous join, ch 1, *sk next ch, dc in next ch, ch 1; rep from * around to last ch, sk last ch; join with sl st to first dc (3rd ch).

Note: From here on a rnd is counted once you have worked a rnd on both sides of the cowl and are able to join with a sl st to the first st in the rnd.

Rnd 3: Join CB in first ch-1 sp, work beg puff st in same first sp, work puff st in next ch-1 sp and each ch-1 sp around; join with sl st to beg puff st.

Rnd 4: Join CA in sp before next puff st, ch 4, *dc in sp before next puff st, ch 1; rep from * around; join with sl st to first dc.

Rnd 5: Ch 4, *dc in next dc, ch 1; rep from * around; join with sl st to first dc.

Rep rnds 3-5 until you have reached a desired width making sure to end with rnd 3.

Last rnd: Sl st into sp before next puff st, ch 1, work 2 sc in same sp and into each sp around; join with sl st. FO.
