Alternating Crunch Stitch Crochet Scarf Pattern
If you’re looking for something different than you might enjoy this striped crochet scarf pattern. The stitch is worked slightly differently from the normal version of the crunch stitch. Instead of working the stitches in both loops, I alternated the stitches between the front and back loops, thus giving it a pretty stitched design on one side of the crocheted scarf.
If you find it too tedious to alternate between the stitches, you might enjoy this crochet crunch stitch scarf pattern.
I would like to say that this scarf is quick to make, but there are a lot of ends to weave in if you choose to make it without an edging, which is what I did here. But if you’re pressed for time, you can carry the yarn up after the color changes and then add a one-round border to hide the yarn.

Notes
The stitches are alternated with the half double crochet worked into the front loop only of the slip stitch, and the slip stitch is worked into the back loop only of the half double crochet.
Colors are changed at the last stitch made in the previous row.
I changed colors after every two rows, but you can also do it after each row, or however many you like, for different color designs.
To Change Color in the Half Double Crochet: Work the stitch as normal until the last step and you have three loops on the hook; drop the old color, pick up the new color and draw through all loops to complete the stitch.
To Change Color in the Slip Stitch: Drop the old color and pick up the new color. Work the slip stitch as normal.
