Skill Level: Easy

Materials

  • Yarn: Caron Cotton Cakes (Medium, #4; 60% Cotton, 40% Acrylic; 250g/8.8oz; 530yds/485m) Color: Beach View, 1 ball.
  • Crochet Hook: H/8-5.00mm
  • Other: Measuring Tape, Scissors, Yarn Needle.

Measurements

  • Gauge: 13 sts = 4″.
  • Finished Size: 48″  in circumference by 10″wide. 

Crochet Abbreviations

  • Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
  • Dc = Double Crochet
  • FO = Fasten Off
  • Rep = Repeat
  • Sc = Single Crochet
  • Sk = Skip
  • Sl St = Slip Stitch
  • Sp/Sps = Space/Spaces
  • St/Sts = Stitch/Stitches

Notes

When working Rounds 2-18, join the rounds with a double crochet, which then, along with the last two chains, counts as the last chain-5 space.

Also, you have two options when it comes to the mesh rounds:

  • Continue to crochet every round from the same side, which will cause the seam to spiral. This was my chosen method.
  • Turn after each round, which will keep the seam in a straight line.

Crochet Diamond Mesh Cowl Pattern Instructions

Ch 160, or any multiple of 4; join with sl st to first ch being careful not to twist chs.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, working into back bumps, sc in first ch and into each ch around; join with sl st in first sc. [160 sts]

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 5, sk next 3 sts, sc in next st; rep from * around to last 3 sts; ch 2, dc in first sc to join and create the last ch-5 sp. [40 ch-5 sps]

Rnds 3-18: Ch 1, sc in first sp, *ch 5, sc in next sp; rep from * around; ch 2, dc in first sc to join and create the last ch-5 sp. [40 ch-5 sps]

Rnd 19: Ch 1, sc in first sp, ch 3, *sc in next sp, ch 3; rep from * around; join with sl st in first sc. [40 ch-3 sps]

Rnd 20: Ch 1, sc in first st and in each st and ch around; join with sl st in first sc. FO. [160 sts]
