Snowman Applique by Cream of The Crop Crochet

This quick crochet snowman applique is perfect for all your appliqueing needs during the holiday season. It’s got a cute top hat, carrot nose and a bright red scarf to brighten up just about anything.

Use the finished product on all your accessories from hats and scarves to bags. It’s also the perfect way to add some holiday cheer to your handmade gifts and gift wrapping. There are two sizes for this applique, the small measures 3″ tall and the larger one is 3.5″ tall. Thus, it’s easy to make this applique to go on hats of all sizes. Included is a cute hat and scarf pattern that you could use on other fitting appliques as well.

Best of all, this is a great pattern to clean up your yarn stash. So if you have a lot of small balls of yarn that need to be worked up, this would make for a great pattern for that. Regardless the colors you may have as the scarf can be done in any color, not just red.

Skill Level

Materials

  • Yarn: Worsted weight yarn (We used small amounts of yarn.) White, Black, Red, Orange
  • Crochet Hook: F-5 (3.75mm)
  • Other: Scissors, Yarn Needle.

Measurements

  • Small snowman: about 3" tall
  • Large snowman: about 3 1/2" tall

Instructions

Small Snowman Head

  • With white yarn, ch 2
  • Row 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join
  • Row 2: ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc in next 3 sts, *2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts* repeat * to * around, join, cut yarn, fasten off, weave ends

Small Snowman Body

  • With white yarn, ch 2
  • Row 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join
  • Row 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, join, cut yarn, fasten off, weave ends
  • Attach head to body.

Large Snowman Head

  • With white yarn, ch 2
  • Row 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join
  • Row 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, join, cut yarn, fasten off, weave ends

Large Snowman Body

  • With white yarn, ch 2
  • Row 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join
  • Row 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, join
  • Row 3: ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc in next 3 sts, *2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts* repeat * to * around, join, cut yarn, fasten off, weave ends
  • Attach head to body.

Small/Large Snowman Top Hat

  • With black yarn, ch 4
  • Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 sts, turn
  • Row 2: ch 1, sc in each st, turn
  • Row 3: ch 1, sc in each st, cut yarn, fasten off, weave ends
  • ch 6, cut yarn, fasten off, weave ends, attach to bottom of square
  • Attach top hat to top of head.

Small/Large Snowman Face

  • Take black yarn, and embroider eyes.
  • Take black yarn, and embroider a mouth in a weaving form.
  • Take orange yarn, and embroider a triangle as a carrot.

Small/Large Snowman Scarf

  • With red yarn, ch 30 (or the length you want), tie around snowman.
  • If you want "buttons" to go down the front of the snowman, weave black yarn in the same manner as the mouth.
  • Attach snowman to snowman to hat.
