Matching Hat and Scarf Crochet Pattern
I love the beautiful texture created in this matching hat and scarf crochet pattern. It’s the perfect winter set to keep warm in style.
The free crochet pattern has a bit of an open stitch, but still enough to add a layer of warmth. However, in super cold weather you can wear this under a winter hood. Or, add a simple liner to the hat. Either one will work to bundle up and keep warm.
It is worked up in a thicker yarn and larger hook, which helps for it to work up quickly. Leave it as is, or add a cute pom pom at the top.
I chose a solid pink, but choose your favorite color, or even a pretty striped design to make this your very own.
Finished Size
The pattern is given in one size, but you can modify it to any size by doing more or less repeats of the increase rounds. Thus, you can easily crochet this to any size from baby to adult.
I have not documented the size of the scarf, but you can easily modify that to any size you need by chaining the number of chains you need for the length. You can also work it across the short rows if you like and then simply crochet until you get the length you want.
Refer to this crochet hat size chart if making changes to the hat. The chart gives you exact measurements for the crown, or the top of the hat, so the finished hat will come out to the circumference you need.
The Yarn
I used a thicker worsted weight yarn called Red Heart Comfort and a J crochet hook.
However, any yarn and hook size will work with a bit of experimenting to get the correct size.
Vanna’s Choice and Pound of Love are two good alternatives. If making this for a baby, you can choose a baby yarn to make it softer for them.

The Stitch Pattern
For this set, I used the pike stitch, which is the extended single crochet and a chain one space. It’s a beautiful stitch that you can incorporate into just about any project to give it a nice texture and simple lace.
The hat is worked from the top down. It is worked in rounds from the right side.
The scarf pattern is worked along the long rows, but you can also work it along the short rows as well. A stitch multiple is given to make it easy for you to customize.
