Crochet Bag Holder

Here is a quick and easy crochet bag holder pattern to keep all your grocery bags tucked away neatly. To use the bag holder, simply stuff your plastic bags in at the top. Then when you need a bag, simply dig one out at the bottom.

I did mine in a solid color, but this is a project where you could literally pull out all the smallest odds and ends and use them up. Especially if your holder ends up on the inside of a cupboard or closet door where no one is ever going to see it. With that said, I’m sure you could do some pretty amazing stripes that you’d be proud to show off.

The Stitches and How It’s Made

The stitch pattern is mindless and super easy to work on. It’s the extended single crochet along with chain one spaces to give a nice texture on the fabric. The extended single crochet is slightly higher than the single crochet, and really easy to learn.

This crochet grocery bag holder pattern is started at the bottom by working around an elastic hair band. The elastic is helpful in keeping the bags from falling out and also makes it easier to grab the bags when needed.

As for the drawstring, I stitched both ends together after I weaved it into the bag. Thus, for me it also serves as a hanger for the holder. However, one of my testers crocheted up another little loop and sewed it onto the bag for hanging.

The Yarn

I used an economic acrylic yarn, Red Heart Comfort. It is an aran weight yarn. It’s a bit thicker than the super saver. Any similar worsted weight acrylic yarn will work to make this. I like the acrylic, because it adds a nice stretch, allowing you to put in even more bags than bargained for.
