Crochet Dishcloth Pattern – Ambler

Grab your favorite dishcloth cotton and get started on this easy crochet dishcloth pattern. It showcases a bit of lace and a bit of texture to make your dishwashing a breeze. Not only is this great for your kitchen, but also for the bathroom and cleaning your entire home.

In addition to the pretty lace and texture, you will also enjoy this dishcloth’s soft drape. This is due to a larger hook being used than what the yarn company calls for.

Customize the cloth by using a solid color or a striped design to match your kitchen. Size also, is easy to customize.

The Size

The finished size of this crochet dishcloth is 8.75″ by 9″. However, it is super easy to adjust the size as needed in a multiple of 2 + 1 for your starting chains. Thus, it is super easy to make a placemat, table runner, or floor mat to match.

Materials

I used a small ball of Bernat Handicrafter Cotton. For my first copy, I used an ombre yarn. I didn’t like it much, so I tried a solid color and it came out perfect!

As for my crochet hook, I used a J/6mm hook size. It’s larger than what is recommended by the yarn company, but since I was working with the cross stitch I figured it would help to keep the cloth more flexible. And it did!

When I did pattern row 2 with the extended single crochet and chain spaces, I questioned my decision to use a larger hook size. It seemed like everything was way too loose. But after working the next row I realized it came out beautifully!

The Stitch Pattern

If you’ve been following me for a while you know that I tha absolutely love the extended single crochet and the cross stitch. In this dishcloth, I’ve combined the two to create a pretty and textured lace.

The stitch pattern is worked over four rows with every other row worked with the single crochet. Then to spice it up in between the rows of single crochets we have the extended single crochet with chain one spaces in one row, and in the next, it is worked in the cross stitch.

It is super easy, yet pretty enough to make for gifts for everyone, or sale items at your next craft fair.
