Mini or Long Crochet Barbie Dress

Here is my first pattern for a crochet Barbie dress. Instructions are given for both a mini and long dress that flare out at the bottom. Both dresses are easy to crochet provided you are used to working with crochet thread.

This adorable dress is held up and tied at the back with a string. It’s elegant and perfect for any girls doll clothing collection. The long dress can serve as a wedding or prom dress, while the short dress is perfect for a day at the beach.

Made with Crochet Thread

The crochet thread is a size 10. It comes wrap around a cardboard spool. You only need a small amount of thread to complete this. Leftover thread can be used to doilies or lots more of these dresses as gifts for your child’s friends.

I chose a thread because it allowed me to add details that regular yarn did not allow. Anything similar that meets the gauge would work just as well.

How It’s Made

This dress is worked simply with the single and double crochet stitches. A few taller stitches are thrown in at the top for a touch of elegance.

The dress is tied at the back with a criss-cross lace, eliminating the need for buttons and snaps.

It is worked from the bottom up in one piece, except for the tie string. The skirt is worked in rounds, while the top part is worked in rows.

I did mine in a solid color, but the single and double crochets work well in a striped design, making it the perfect pattern for using up bits and pieces of crochet threads.

Notes

  • The dress is worked in rounds from the bottom up to the waist. At that point you begin working in rows for the top.
  • When doing the back, it may seem as though it is not wide enough. However, once you crochet the side loops and weave the string in, it pulls together nicely.
  • You can adjust the length of the dress after the bottom ruffle is complete by following the special instructions given for the long dress.
