Spiral Shell Rasta Hat
This spiral hat crochet pattern features a beautiful slouch design to wear over your hair. It looks nice if worn over medium to long hair, but can also worn with shorter hair.
It’s the perfect slouch hat pattern for the spring and fall weather, moderate winter weather, and even cooler summer weather! Thus, it makes for a nice gift idea year-round for anyone who loves to wear hats.
Finished Size
This hat is a bit smaller than my other two rasta hat patterns and is not meant to cover a large amount of hair. The free crochet pattern is in one size only and will work as a loose fit or a snug fit, depending on your preference.
For a larger size, you can try a larger crochet hook and a thicker yarn, and vice versa.
The Yarn
This spiral shell rasta hat is my first design with Paton’s Canadiana, The New Generation. I really love this worsted weight yarn because it is so soft and is very easy to work with. It is one of the better acrylic yarns readily available in stores.
You can use all kinds of bright and vibrant colors if you like for a rasta hat. Or, if you simply want a simple slouchy beanie then choose a solid color as shown.
Either way, this crochet hat pattern will look great with just about any outfit.

The Stitch Pattern
I used an offset shell stitch in order to create the spiral effect of the pattern. The shell stitch is made simply with 4 double crochet stitches, 2 chains, and another 2 double crochets.
The crochet pattern is pretty straightforward and should be easy enough for a beginner to follow.
The pattern starts to get floppy at rnd 4 but it begins to even out at rnd 9 into a nice ruffled look.

It’s a beautiful hat. I made it from the directions and it did not spiral at all. It’s still a beautiful hat.
Thank you so much for the feedback Sabrina. :)
