Two-Toned Cotton Baby Bib

August 27, 2021 · Rhelena · 5 Comments

This two-toned cotton baby bib is perfect for both baby girls and boys. It’s a great bib to gift at baby showers. Plus, you only need a small amount of yarn, making it a great way to clean up your cotton yarn.

The crochet bib has a bit of a lacy look to it, but not too lacy to defeat the purpose of a bib.

Two-Toned Cotton Baby Bib Crochet Pattern

How It’s Crocheted

This bib is worked from the bottom up with single crochets, chain one spaces and half double crochets. Decreases are made in each row at the center point, which gives the shape to the bib.

A simple edging is worked with single crochets. The strings are worked in the edge along the top of the bib. You can work the edging with color A or color B as you wish. Above is shown with Color A, and in the image below it was done with Color B.

Another option that you have is to work it in two colors or in a solid color. In two colors, the colors are changed and fastened off after each row. It’s a lot of ends to weave in, but a great way to clean up your stash.

If you’re pressed for time making last-minute gifts, a solid color goes much quicker.

The Size

The crocheted bib is available in 2 different sizes. The large is approximately half an inch bigger than the small. But you can easily add more sizes in a multiple of 4. Then figure out your middle point as that is where the decrease is made, and then follow the pattern. Continue in the decrease pattern until the neckline is where you want it.

Below the larger size is shown on a 6 month. It is shown loose around neck, but you could tighten it up a bit for it to catch even more drips.

    Hi!
I am just now getting to that wonderful bib of yours but am having problems – 2nd row – I do what u hv in brkts 7x ch1 then I get stuck b/c I am going wrong somehow. I end up picking up 9 sts (is that correct?) sc3tog 3x = 9 sts, ch1, sc in nxt then try to repeat [ch1, sk nxt sc in nxt st] 7 x but only end up doing this 6x & I end up with 1 st left over. At end of row 1 I do get 33 sts. but when I try row 2 I fail somewhere. I hv tried several ways but still can’t get it. I am stuck & don’t know what to try next – can u help me? I don’t end up anywhere near 17 sts. Am I reading the instructions wrong???

Oh no, you only do the sc3tog once.. sorry that’s my bad.. I changed the pattern to just say sc3tog. Some prefer it the other way, but I think this is more standard.. Let me know if that does it or if you still have problems.

Okay, so I’ve updated the pattern and changed the part in row 2 ” sc3tog over next 3 sts” to say just “sc3tog”. And on the edging I changed the bl to back bumps when working into the chains.

If you’re still struggling with stitch count I would recommend to mark your first and last sts in each row, as well as the decrease sts in the center. That might help to pin point the problem… if not, would you send a pic?

      Thanks so much. :)
