Use any yarn and hook size and adjust as needed to obtain the size you need. You could easily make a shawl or a blanket by increasing the number of beginning chains. To do so, simply chain a multiple of 5 plus 1, then continue in the pattern.

All you need in order to do broomstick lace crochet is your yarn, a crochet hook suitable for the yarn, and a large knitting needle. Materials

  • Yarn: Bernat Softee Chunky 1 80g/2.8oz. ball
  • Crochet Hook: K/10.5-6.50MM
  • Knitting Needle: 25MM
  • Tools: Scissors, Yarn Needle.

Measurements

  • 50" long and 5" wide. You can make it as long as you like.

Abbreviations

Notes

  • Do not turn at the end of the rows. When you do your crochet rows, work from right to left, and when you do your loop rows, work from left to right.

Instructions

  • Row 1 (Crochet Row): Ch 16 (or any multiple of 5 + 1), sc into second ch from hook, and into each ch across.
  • Row 2: (Loop Row): Place crochet loop onto knitting needle, *insert hook into back loop of next st, yo, pull yarn through and place loop onto knitting needle, repeat from * to end of row.
  • Row 3: (Crochet Row): Insert hook under first 5 loops on needle, yo and pull through all 5 loops, ch 5, (counts as securing ch, and first tr), work another 4 tr into the same group of 5 loops, *5 tr around the next 5 loops, repeat from * to end of row.
  • Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have reached a desired length.
  • Last Row: Turn. Ch 1, sc into each st across. Fasten off.
