Crochet Rectangle Placemat

Make one or make a whole set of this crochet rectangle placemat. It has a bit of an open stitch, which is enough to protect against plates and bowls, but if you’re looking for something to also protect from the heat, then you may wish to line this.

A rectangle placemat crocheted up in double crochets and the cross stitch shown up close.

The pattern is a simple multiple of 2, making it easy to adjust the width to make a table runner to match if you like. You can literally make this to any size you need, so if you have a huge table, you could make several of these mats to fit the middle of the table for all your serving bowls.

You can also make this to fit your coffee and end table, dressers, book shelves etc, etc.

I did one row for the edging, but you can do two if you like for a bit more support especially along the sides.

If you enjoy this, you might also enjoy the crochet dishcloths that I worked up in this stitch pattern.
