Materials

  • Yarn: Lion Brand Yarns – Pound Of Love – Pound Of Love (Medium, #4; 100% Premium Acrylic; 1020yds/932m; 16oz./454g) Color: Thistle, 1 ball
  • Crochet Hook:  J/10-6.00mm
  • Other: Measuring Tape, Scissors, Yarn Needle.

Measurements – Size Chart

  • Gauge: 13 sts = 4″.
  • Finished Size: 18.5″ in circumference by 11″ high.

Crochet Abbreviations

  • Bldc = Back Loop Double Crochet
  • Bldc2tog = Back Loop Double Crochet 2 Together
  • Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
  • Flsc = Front Loop Single Crochet
  • Flsc2tog = Front Loop Single Crochet 2 Together
  • Rep = Repeat
  • Rnd/Rnds = Round/Rounds
  • RS = Right Side
  • Sc = Single Crochet
  • Sl St = Slip Stitch
  • St/Sts = Stitch/Stitches

Special Stitch Instructions

This pattern is worked into either the front loops (fl) only, or the back loops (bl) only.

  • The front loops are the ones closest to you.
  • The back loops are the ones furthest away from you.
  • Bldc: Work the double crochet as normal, but insert your hook into the back loops only. 
  • Bldc2tog: Work the double crochet 2 together as normal, but insert your hook into the back loops only. 
  • Blsc: Work the single crochet as normal, but insert your hook into the back loops only. 
  • Flsc: Work the single crochet as normal, but insert your hook into the front loops only. 
  • Flsc2tog: Work the single crochet 2 together as normal, but insert your hook into the front loops only. 

Note

All joins were made in both loops.

Crochet Ribbed Hat Pattern Instructions

Ribbing Rows

Row 1: Ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook and into each ch across. Turn. [9 sc]

Rows 2-60: Ch 1, blsc in first st and into each st across. Turn. [9 sts] Continue with this row until you have reached a desired circumference, making sure to end in an even number.

Ch 1 and join the ribbing rows by slip stitching the last row to the free lps of starting chs.

Working in the Round (Body of Hat)

Rnd 1 (RS) : Working along the ribbing edge, ch 1, sc in the end of the first row and into each row around; join with sl st in first sc. Turn. [60 sts]

Rnd 2 (WS): Ch 1 (does not count as st), flsc in first st and into each st around; join with sl st in first sc. Turn. [60 sts]

Rnd 3 (RS): Ch 2 (does not count as st), bldc in first st and into each st around; join with sl st in first dc. Turn. [60 sts]

Rnds  4-19: Rep Rnds 2 & 3.

Rnd 20: Ch 1, flsc2tog around; join with sl st in first sc2tog. Turn. [30 sts]

Rnd 21: Ch 2, bldc2tog around; join with sl st in first dc2tog. [15 sts] 

Fasten Off leaving an 8″-10″ tail to weave in through last Rnd. Pull tight to close and secure. Leave as is, or add an optional pom pom.
