Simple Seeded Lace Crochet Hat Pattern

This crochet hat pattern is the perfect last-minute gift idea for any occasion. It works up quick and easy and can be modified to fit any size.

It is a lightweight slouch, with a bit of an open stitch pattern, which makes it perfect for spring and fall weather. For those living in extreme weather, this might be perfect for underneath a winter hood as an extra layer of warmth. Another option would be to line it.

I chose a solid color for this hat, but you can just as well add a few stripes or color block it to use up a few leftovers. Either way, you can easily crochet this to match any outfit in your front closet.

The Size

The finished size is about 18.5″ in circumference by 10.5″ long. But you can adjust both dimensions very easy.

The circumference can be adjusted in any multiple of 2 for the ribbing rows. As for the length, simply stop crocheting when you reach the length that you want. Refer to this crochet hat size chart.

The Yarn

I used Red Heart Comfort Sport. The yarn is a dk weight acrylic yarn. As with the regular Comfort, the Comfort Sport also comes in a large skein, which makes it economical as well.

Best of all, this yarn gives you a beautiful and soft drape!

The Stitch Pattern

The crochet hat is started at the bottom with the ribbing rows, which are worked in short rows, but then joined together to fit around the head. From there the hat is worked in the round from the bottom up.

The stitch is super easy to master! It’s simply the seed stitch worked in one round and then half doubles and chain one spaces in the next.
