Pretty Simple Triangular Shawl Crochet Pattern

Tips For Choosing Your Yarn

If substituting with a different yarn, choose something soft, and go up a hook size, if needed, to achieve a more drapeable fabric.

I chose a color block yarn, but the stitch pattern also looks great in a self-striping yarn. Another option is to select solid-colored yarns in various shades to create your own unique stripes.

Materials

Yarn: Queensland Collection United (Fine, #2; 55% Lambswool; 45% Cotton; 7.05oz/200g; 1531yds/1400m) Color: #12 Kangaroo Isle
Crochet Hook: 4mm, or any hook that gives you a soft and drapeable fabric.

Measurements

Gauge: 4 v-sts = 4″, gauge is not important.
Finished Size: Approximately 62″ along the top by 31″ from the top to the bottom point.

Ch/Chs = Chain/Chains
Hdc = Half Double Crochet
Rep = Repeat
Sc = Single Crochet
Sp/Sps = Space/Spaces
St/Sts = Stitch/Stitches
V-St = V Stitch

Special Stitch Instructions

V-Stitch (v-st): 2 hdc in same ch, st or sp. When you work a v-st into another v-st, work the v-st in between the 2 hdc that make up the v-st. See the stitch tutorial HERE,

Triangular Crochet Shawl Pattern

Row 1: Ch 2, work 5 hdc in  2nd ch from hook. Turn. [5 hdc]

Row 2: Ch 1, v-st into first st and into each st across. Turn. [5 v-sts, OR 10 hdc]

Row 3: Ch 2, (counts as first hdc now and throughout), v-st in first v-st; v-st in next v-st, (v-st, ch 1, v-st) in next v-st. (Note: The ch-1 sp is your bottom point. Place a stitch marker in ch-1, and move the marker up at each row to keep track of the bottom point.) V-st in next 2 v-sts, hdc in last hdc of last v-st. Turn. [6 v-sts, 2 hdc, and 1 ch-1 sp]  

Row 4: Ch 1, v-st in first hdc, v-st into next v-st and into each v-st up to marked ch-1 sp; v-st in ch-1 sp, v-st in next v-st and into each v-st across; v-st in last hdc (top of ch-2). Turn. [9 v-sts]

Row 5: Ch 2, v-st in first v-st and into each v-st up to the v-st before the marked v-st; work 2 v-sts into the v-st before the marked v-st; v-st into marked v-st, 2 v-sts into next v-st, v-st in next v-st and into each v-st across; hdc in last hdc of last v-st. Turn. [11 v-sts and 2 hdc]

Row 6: Ch 1, v-st in first hdc,  v-st in first v-st and into each v-st across; v-st in last hdc (top of ch-2). Turn. [13 v-sts]

Row 7: Ch 2, v-st in first v-st and into each v-st up to marked v-st; (v-st, ch 1, v-st) in marked v-st, v-st in next v-st and into each v-st across; hdc in last hdc of last v-st. Turn. [14 v-sts, 2 hdc, and 1 ch-1 sp] 

Rows 8-100: Rep Rows 4-7 until you have reached the desired size. 

Edging

Ch 1, sc evenly around working 3 sc into each corner. Join with a slip stitch in first sc. Fasten Off.
